QUEEN VICTORIA's MYSTERIOUS DAUGHTER (PRINCESS LOUISE) by LUCINDA HAWKSELY : MISTRESS MANIFESTO BOOK REVIEW

A Biography of Princess Louise by Lucinda Hawksley

This book held some surprises. Not familiar with Queen Victoria, other than to hear she had married her many children into so many noble households that she was called the Grandmother of Royal Europe, I had no idea that she had a daughter who unconventionally married a commoner, Princess Louise. Louise was Queen Victoria's sixth child and fourth daughter. This Princess was an artist and sculptor who created many excellently designed and executed statues to honor her mother which are still on public display. Much of this book is devoted to Louise's artistic achievement.

There's a possibility, certainly the author suggests this as an explanation, that Louise was so unconventional that she actually had a child without marriage that was put up for adoption. (Who might that have been, we wonder, but there is no hint.) Officially, she had no children.

She was encouraged to marry but was hesitant to marry at all, as one man after another was dismissed as a possible husband. What Royal Princess could remain unmarried? She accepted the future 9th Duke of Argyll, Lorne, in 1870. Her siblings and her father, Bertie, were against the match but Queen Victoria prevailed. The marriage was no love match. On her honeymoon Princess Louise took along her dogs. It's possible that while the Duke accepted that she was barren, what might have happened is a sterilization by the doctor who delivered her illegitimate child or simply the birth of that child was too traumatic. It may be that the couple lived separate lives from the start. So why?

While I read the book, I considered another possibility, which the author did not, and that was that perhaps Louise, illegitimate child or not, simply wasn't heterosexual. She would not have been the only person who found themselves uninterested in marriage, or men, or who was married to another person who was not heterosexual, in order to be socially acceptable.

IN 2013 SCOTT THORSON SAID HE ONCE HAD AN AFFAIR WITH MICHAEL JACKSON : IT'S CONTROVERSIAL

Multiple news agencies around 2013 reported that SCOTT THORSON said he also had a homosexual relationship with famous singer MICHAEL JACKSON.

I listed to a Howards Stern interview of Scott Thorson on YouTube.  I'll let you find it.  It's rude and crude and X rated.  Scott was in good humor and actually did answer some extremely intimate questions about sex with Liberace and also Michael Jackson.

Here is the review: Scott said he met Michael in 1977 and they were good friends. (He and Lee (Liberace) broke up in 1982.) He did have something going with Michael while still with Lee... Michael and Scott all had some cosmetic surgery at the same time.  Micheal was there convalescing at the same time. It was when Michael  was just starting his cosmetic surgeries.

Scott does not believe Michael had sex with young boys.

During the interview he maintained a loving and positive attitude towards Michael.

This was also around the time that the Thriller album was so successful ....  Scott also says he was in recording studios with Michael.

When asked if he was in love with Michael, he said no.

"How could you top Liberace?"

Other videos contained photos that give evidence of Lee, Scott, and Michael together.  However, to me this is no surprise as lots of celebrities meet up.  However, also I think it's entirely possible that Scott and Michael did have a relationship of some sort.

Twenty years before Scott, Liberace sued Confidential Magazine.  Scott says he lived his whole life thinking he was still in the closet, despite his flamboyant stage clothing, and, let's say it, that anyone with GAYDAR probably knew right away! - Missy

SCOTT THORSON : CRIME AUTHOR MICHAEL CONNELLY TAKES ON THE WONDERLAND MURDERS AND THORSON IS THE LAST MAN STANDING

I searching for more recent news of SCOTT THORSON, I found that he had done a number of interviews around the time of the film Behind the Candelabra. I watched numerous videos on YouTube, some that got clipped into Tik Tok as well. Most were ten or more years old and were repetitive of the information I already provided here at Mistress Manifesto.

Liberace went out of his way to hide his homosexuality and therefore his relationship with Scott was also kept secret, which required lots of collaboration - from the media especially. So when Scott outed himself, he also outed Liberace.

Where were we as a culture on the subject of the LGBTQ stars in the 80's? 90's. Ten years ago?  What about today when there are still many places where LGBTQ people do not dare be open?  I want to know if Scott Thorson was doubted because he was duped by a star? Or because he was and is not heterosexual?

Best selling crime fiction author, Michael Connelly, has tackled the Wonderland Murders and his investigative take which includes Scott Thorson. Connelly's book is called The Wonderland Murders and The Secret History of Hollywood. In this YouTube video one investigator believed Thorson entirely and another thought Scott to be a liar.

Scott Thorson was put into a Witness Protection Program due to his testimony.

My libraries do not have a copy of this book but you can listen to clips of it on YouTube, as read by the author. There were three trials and no one was ever convicted of the murders which thus remain unsolved.

In this 2021 article that appeared in Rolling Stone Magazine, Scott Thorson says investigators should continue to work on the case.

EVERY WOMAN NEEDS A GAY MALE PAL BUT DON'T GET USED AS COVER : OPINION BY MISSY

A while back I met a man who told me that he was - well - not transgender - but born with female DNA and male characteristics. When he told me this, he said that the friends he grew up with knew about it and accepted him.  I did to - or so I thought - when I didn't know he had an agenda. Now he was in a new city and social situation and trying to make friends.. He told me he had been in love with a woman years back but his DNA problem required that he break the relationship and that everyone felt sorry for him but also understood.

He dressed and conducted himself as a man, and as a man, he seemed to be rather sexist.

He asked me along to a lunch where he said we would be meeting up with one of his friends and be talking about literary books. I'm well qualified to be part of such a discussion. The friend is heterosexual and married and I have no idea what all he knew about the man who'd invited me. We got there and these two talked literary books, without including me in. They were putting on a performance. I was supposed to be the gal simply astounded by their knowledge. The audience. They were obnoxious. I couldn't have intruded with any commentary about any author or book.

I got it. The man with the female DNA was trying to show me off as his girlfriend to his heterosexual friend, like he was scoring points with this man for even having a woman along. I got it that I was supposed to be providing cover or proof that he was all male. Who knows what he had told this heterosexual man about me before this lunch or after. It was the last for me.

I sat there wishing I had not wasted my time. Such situations are hard for me, because my politeness kicks in, even when others are not being polite to me. Luckily the lunch place was busy, the waitress came by numerous times to give us a clue it was time for her to turn the table over to other waiting diners. We left and I determined that I would not be receptive to this man any further.

One day flowers were sent by a mystery person. There was a mystery card in the flowers and the person who had received them must have taken a bribe to keep the secret. I was not comfortable at all with this. I gave them to the person who had received them, saying there must have been a mistake made. Later, I heard her saying how "cute" and 'romantic' this gesture of his was. I realized this woman was part of the problem.

The unwelcome flowers could have been from anyone and a man posing as a 'friend' while actually having a secret agenda was not someone I wanted in my life at al.

Not long after this, I ran into the man in a public place. I was in a hurry but could not ignore him. He used this moment to ask after the flowers and plant a kiss on my cheek, thus revealing himself. Then he pointed to his own cheek expecting a kiss there from me.  I did not. Where was this going? Clearly, because he was in a fantasy about me, he had not even bothered to ever ask me if I was available. When he next asked me to lunch, I told him that I was not available.

Not that this man was "gay." This was before the discussion on sexuality and gender became what it is today, with so very many labels to define oneself, should you want to put one on, or out yourself.  (I do not believe anyone should be outing anyone else.) If technically he was female, but not transgender, but had a crush on me, what was he imagining?  How confusing!

Whatever it was, I didn't want or need it.

There men who are not confused and have known they are gay - not sexually attracted to females - for a long time. The pressure on them now is to be 'out and proud' but not so long ago the pressure on them was to be 'in the closet' for their own safety and protection. I  think this is still the case in some places. I live in a big city where there is a significant gay population and areas of that city where homosexuals dominate and it's safer for them to be out.

I have gay friends but 'm not willing to be any gay man's pretend girlfriend for the sake of his relationship with his parents or his heterosexual, perhaps gay-hating boss, or perhaps his not-tolerant heterosexual friends. Is there a real friendship there?  That's what you have to ask yourself.

Over the years I've known of a number of women who were sympathetic to a gay man's difficult situation with his parents or boss who did, willingly, act as a girlfriend, but I thought some of them were being used. I especially hated to hear gay men talking about some of those women as "fag hags."

Pre-Covid, I went with a gay friend to see him play soccer with his team. These men get right to their game, sometimes lingering afterwards for beer and some conversation. Most do not bring along family, wives, or girlfriends. I got the impression though that my friend, showing up with a woman, tweaked their curiosity, and sure enough more than one came over to ask him who I was. He said, "I will tell you. She is my friend."  I was so glad he handled this honestly.

HER HETEROSEXUAL WOMAN FRIEND MARRIED A GAY MAN : IS BEING BAD IN BED A CLUE?

QUESTION FOR MISSY

Missy,

My best woman friend fell in love at 25 years old, married the man at 26, and by 27 found herself in a no-sex marriage.  This man will say or do anything to avoid having sex with her.  The reason he uses the most is that they are not ready to have children. I won't go into the details, but it's my opinion he's gay and married her as a cover.

So, other than trying to be supportive of my friend as she tries to figure out if she wants to stay or leave this marriage, what this has to do with me is that I had a relationship a couple years ago and the sex was bad.  We were both young and inexperienced and so I thought that was why.  After a couple months I wasn't into it and stopped dating that man. I recently heard he came out as gay. I got into another relationship and the sex was bad again. That time I didn't waste any time keeping it going.

My big questions is, if a man who is supposed to be heterosexual is bad in bed, is it because really he's gay?

Lizbeth,

Montana

ANSWER FROM MISSY

Lizbeth,

I always thought Montana was full of macho-type cowboys but you've got me wondering it they are gay cowboys!

There are many reasons why two people who are attractive enough to each other to go to bed then discover it just doesn't work between them.  And depending what the problem is, it could be one thing or another.  I figure if a couple have a whole lot going for them other than sex and want to stay in a relationship, going to a sex therapist together is a good idea. A sex therapist can probably give some great advice, having heard it all.

However, now that I've personally had more than one women friend discover they are dating or married to a gay men, and I know the heartbreak that discovery caused them, and the insecurity about their attractiveness that lead to revenge affairs, and so much else, well.  Shooting from the hip, so to speak, I think yes, a man who is bad in bed with women may just not be attracted to the women or women in general. He may be hoping he's not gay.  He may not know he's gay.  He may actually be bisexual but more turned on by men.

Don't waste your time teaching him to perform what is not natural for him, that's what I think.  He may be lazy, he may be bored, he may be selfish.  He may be gay.

Here are some of the things that were reported to me as these women friends tried to sort out what was wrong.

X wanted to have sex in a way that does not require a woman's body.
Y seemed to have phobias about germs but also bodily fluids.
V noticed that the man when he encountered her parts above belt, would use the flat of his hand as if she were flat-chested. She later imagined him using his hand like that on his best buddy.
W claimed the only part of her body he was attracted to was her behind.  He humiliated her by saying so to his men friends while she stood there.
G's man had her running to a doctor to see if she was normal after he made some specific complaints about something that the doctor said was just ridiculous.
R called his long time best friend to talk to him every day when he and my woman friend were supposed to be on their first vacation trip together and the sex was bad.

For all the men who are "out" there are still some who are not.

MALE FEMALE MASCULINE FEMININE HETEROSEXUAL HOMOSEXUAL BISEXUAL TRANSSEXUAL : MORE LABELS THAN EVER

This Valentine month here at Mistress Manifesto BlogSpot, I pause a bit from the more usual Mistress of the Month format to look at a special topic... gender and sexuality.

Do you have a Valentine who isn't heterosexual?

There are more ways to label yourself - and others - than ever. You no longer have to be or choose male or female, heterosexual (straight) or homosexual (gay) or bisexual (excited by both male and female persons) or pansexual (whomever turns you on.) There are MANY labels to describe how you experience yourself in your body and what turns you on and one of those does not include the body.

In keeping my promise to myself and my readers, there won't be anything pornographic in my posts or links. Should I receive comments, I hope some of you will have some suggestions for Mistress of the Month (or Mantress of the Month, a term I came up with for Kept Men) who are in relationships less conventional that the Classic Mistress. Do you know of someone who is perhaps Transgender and being Kept?  (Send me links to books, articles, media...)

Is it possible that the reason Mistresses of the female heterosexual variety are the most known is because as women not fitting a traditional role they are the most scandalous?  Is this a sexist bias?

I want to help you explore these gender and sexuality possibilities because they open up the definition of Mistress; when I hear of a Woman Keeping a Man, which is rarely compared to a Man Keeping a Woman, it's almost always a heterosexual relationship and with that come notions such as traditional roles and "role reversals."

I've known of Older Gay Men Keeping Much Younger Gay men but there seems not to be many publications on that topic. Is that because it's more common in the gay world and being gay is more scandalous than being Kept?

I find labels only useful when you're seeking one and then only temporarily. Labels can be like a diagnosis. People can be self limiting using labels because once you declare yourself, you're still dealing with other people's expectations and stereotypes. So is claiming to be Pansexual a best option?

An example of how labeling can hurt your psychology? I was introduced to a friend's boyfriend and instead of saying his name and what he does for a living, he said "I'm HIV."  Not I have HIV but AM!  This diagnosis was no doubt life-changing for the man, but he was and is so much more!  OK, those two declared themselves gay long before they were involved with each other.

I never knew what to think of another couple because the more masculine person, genetically male, kept saying he was NOT gay though he was involved with another man who declared he WAS gay for years. Perhaps Bisexual might have been a more realistic assumption for him because he once had a girlfriend?  Does that leave the option open that before you die you might find a woman attractive?

I'm more of an advocate for your personal privacy about your sexuality than not at a time when people are confusing being Candid with being Honest and Honestly with Transparency and so many people have made themselves public figures in a desire to be popular or famous who aren't even celebrities. I still think it's none of the business of your employer, for instance, what you do sexually or with whom. It's not professional to be talking about your personal sexual adventures or the details of your relationships at work or in your profession.  (The time to mention your commitment to your boss is upon your engagement (if it's in the papers) or by invitation to your wedding when you might have to change insurance.  Until then, don't take anyone on a date to the office party!)  I guess I still think there are situations were Coming Out is not a good idea. After all, you might change your mind or have an experience you never thought you would.

To research for this month I encountered lots of information on the internet that I want to share with you.  I'll also try to have some fun with this topic and give my opinions.  After all, we can't always be serious.

SEX WITH THE BOSS OK? or is that SEXUAL HARASSMENT?

HUFF POST - ONE IN FOUR MEN SAY SEX WITH BOSS OK

EXCERPT:

"A new Harris Poll found that nearly one out of four (23 percent) men in countries across the world thought it was sometimes or always acceptable for an employer to expect sex from an employee.

The poll, commissioned by the nonprofit humanitarian organization CARE and conducted by Harris Poll, was released Thursday for International Women’s Day. It surveyed 9,400 adults in Australia, Ecuador, Egypt, India, South Africa, the U.S., the U.K. and Vietnam.

“Being expected to have sex with your employer — that’s not a job description, it’s sexual abuse,” CARE CEO Michelle Nunn said in a statement. “It speaks to the global epidemic of harassment and abuse in our workplaces.”

Sexual harassment at work isn’t even illegal in nearly one-third of the world..."

Missy here. I've been sexually harassed on interviews and personally have never had a relationship, a flirtation, or sex with a higher up. But let me say that this is not exclusively a heterosexual issue.  I've met men who say that coworkers as well as higher ups have come on to them or made propositions -both women and men. This is an extremely important issue.  I believe one of the most common ways that a woman becomes a Mistress is through an affair with a higher up at her company.

DECLARATION FOR ALL OF US! : Safe/Safer Sex

"I practice Safe/Safer Sex.  If a person refuses to cooperate, then I don't have sex with them."

Since the days when John C. Holmes was diagnosed as HIV positive - and kept it a secret - there's been some advancement in treating HIV  (the virus that causes AIDS) and keeping it in control and from becoming AIDS, full blown and deadly.

Actor Charlie Sheen has recently come forward as HIV positive, there are plenty of drug cocktail options as well as experimental therapies in many other countries for those who have the wealth to option them as Charlie and many others have. It used to be thought of as a GAY DISEASE but that isn't true.  Since then we know HIV/AIDS can be transmitted through the transfer of blood through needles - especially shared illegal drug use, contamination - blood transfusion and unclean hospital equipment, any form of sexual activity in which there is blood, including menstrual blood, and that the virus has been detected in other bodily fluids such as saliva and tears.  We know that babies can be born sick with it, transferred from their mothers.  We know that people give and get HIV by rape.  We know that people can get it the first time they have unprotected sex or if a rubber breaks.

What all this means is that you have to be careful and especially that you have to TALK ABOUT SAFE/SAFER SEX with a potential sexual partner BEFORE YOU EVER FIND YOURSELF having sex with them so that you're in agreement.

It doesn't matter what your sexual orientation is.

YOU - YOUR LIFE - and the PEOPLE YOU LOVE are all worth saying NO to SEX otherwise.

There are MANY web sites that deal with SAFE/SAFER SEX, HIV, and AIDS but let's look at the one that's officially the CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL for the UNITES STATES

HE'S MR. RIGHT BUT SEX IS TERRIBLE - SHOULD SHE KEEP HIM?

QUESTION FOR MISSY

Missy, I think I've met Mr. Right.  I want to marry him.  He wants to marry me.   He has wonderful qualities.  He's educated, responsible, and he treats me like a lady. Trouble is sex.  We waited a long time.  Six months.  I was already in love with him.   I'm avoiding having sex with him.  I'm 29 and I've had a couple other relationships and sex was OK.  This is the worst sex. I'm beginning to think that the reason his other relationships haven't worked out is because of the sex.  I'm trying to track down one of his ex's to talk to her about it.  What do you say?

Maryanne
Cleveland

ANSWER FOM MISSY

Maryanne

Don't track down his ex and then expect her to instantly bond with you and reveal her personal sex business.  She's done with this man!  He is now your problem.

I say, you're 29 and worried that you'll never get married so you are making do with this man who is NOT Mr. Right for you.

Sex has been called "the wild card" in relationships and I agree.

I've asked some of my girlfriends what they think, and we all agree that sex does not get better because you get married.  If it's a problem when you're in the early stages of in love, it probably always will be.  It's always possible that this man would satisfy someone else, that it's just a basic incompatibility that no book learning or couple's workshops (sex therapy) would fix, but we think that's more for couples who had good sex for a while and then got bored.

So get this, Maryanne.

One of my friends had your situation.  She too had good sex with other men and then met Dirk.  She married Dirk and within a year they weren't having sex at all.  It was pretty awful when she figured it out.  Her husband is a repressed homosexual (old psychology terminology but useful) who is very uncomfortable, if not simply turned off, with a woman.  He wanted a wife so he'd look good to his boss at a conservative law firm and to his family.  She took a good hit to her self esteem and responded by having an affair that assured her that she was not the problem.

Another of my friends, in her twenties, dated a man in his forties and again sex was not good.  But she was very inexperienced and could only think it was her. He told her he was divorced.  He didn't tell her five times.  Each marriage was brief. She's now betting it was the sex.  One night he said something very strange to her about her fancy parts.  He made her feel defective.  This man also had a very good man friend who he talked to every day on the phone.  We're the two of them involved?  Who knows.  She says that it took her years to realize that there was nothing wrong with her fancy parts, that she is attractive, and that she was not the problem.

So BAD SEX can make a woman loose her self esteem and sticking with a MR WRONG is also bad for a woman's confidence.  Two reasons, of many, why a woman should not marry until she's had sexual experience.  (This is not to advise sleeping around or being very casual about an important, and for some sacred, experience.)

If you are actually thinking of marrying someone, then you should feel free to tell them that you are unhappy with sex.  We're all wondering if this man has any idea he's so sad in the sack!

Look at this man as "almost right."  You want someone with his good qualities but you also want to have good sex when you are married, which we hope will be a forever marriage!

MENS GAZE VERSUS WOMEN'S GAZE CAN TELL SEXUAL ORIENTATION and INTEREST

LIVE SCIENE - MALE GAZE REVEALS SEXUAL MOTIVATION

EXCERPT:

The eyes have it.

Previous work has found that men, especially, give away their sexual thoughts with their eyes. The dilation of the pupil in response to sexual images, for example, can reveal sexual orientation reliably in men and in gay women, though straight women don't show such clear patterns.  Studies have also found that heterosexual men gaze longer at pictures of women than of men, while heterosexual women look at male and female images about equally.

EXCERPT and REVIEW : THE MALE BRAIN by LOUANN BRIZENDINE

page 61 CHAPTER on CONFIRMED BACHELORS

..."Frank was a confirmed bachelor and a master of seduction. He had well-rehearsed lines and knew exactly what to say and do to score sexual points. Phrases like 'You're so beautiful you should be a model' and 'I've never met a woman like you before' may be cliches, but Frank was so gorgeous and charming that most women were ready to believe his little deceits. And according to studies, Frank has plenty of company in this 'no strings, no commitment' mating strategy. They showed that deception serves an important part of men's mating strategy for short-term partners. And researchers found that three out of four men said they were willing to lie or "modify the truth" to persuade women to have sex with them. They found that the things dating men lie about are similar around the world. Men exaggerate their wealth, status, and business and social connections. Frank frequently exaggerated his income and financial prospects and rarely missed a chance at name dropping.

"Now that Nicole...heard Frank bragging about his latest conquests...she was so put off by his maneuvering that she tried to warn his newest girlfriend, Stacey. But it was no use. Stacey's brain and body had already fallen under Frank's seductive spell. What she didn't know was that each time she and Frank had sex, she was falling a little more in love - the Oxytocin released during her orgasm was binding her body and brain closer to Frank. But it was working the other way around for him. He was starting to get bored. The more Stacey tried to pin him down to future plans, the more he squirmed. he felt it was time to move on. No cage of domesticity for him...'

"To be sure, both men and women try to manipulate the mating game. But when it comes to using verbal deception, researchers have found that men are biologically more comfortable with it than women.'

MISSY says:

THE PROBLEM WITH BIOLOGY IS DESTINY BOOKS is that they make human beings, male and female, as simple as their gender. This author took no time to discuss male homosexuality and I suspect that if she were to examine that culture, even in context to biological theories or evidence, she might find many exceptions to the rule.

GAY MEN WHO HAVE MEN AS MANTRESSES - AND WIVES

Some gay men seem to have learned the art of keeping a (heterosexual) wife and also a kept (homosexual) man at the same time.

I've met a few of these men in my time and they say everyone is happy with the situation. Is this because the woman has decided it's better to be married than divorced? Or because she has decided that raising their children (together) is the most important thing? Does she have lovers too? Or maybe she's keeping a man for herself?

One man I met had his wife in Los Angeles and his boyfriend in Palm Springs. Is Palm Springs one of the best places to keep or be kept?

Maybe it's easier for the wife to accept that her competition (or is he?) is not another woman. Maybe these "gay" men are actually bisexuals?

I just want to say PRACTICE SAFER SEX ! (and contraception unless you are really truly ready to bring a child into this world and provide it all that it needs and deserves for at least the next 18 years!)

JULY 2011 is KEPT (GAY?) MAN MONTH AT MISTRESS MANIFESTO (MANTRESS !)

OK ! I think keeping multiple relationships may be more acceptable in the gay community than the strait! Statistics show that gay male couples have a very high income. It's male privilege times two. Gay men (and increasingly women straight or gay) have a high rate of owning businesses (and the heck with the discrimination against gays in the workplace.)

Gay men (am I stereotyping?) like to live well and know what living well costs. This is not to say that all gay men are all celebrity hairdressers and interior decorators (or fashion designers)!

But it's more than that...

It's that (older) men keeping (younger) men is a tradition in the gay male community.

Sometimes this is because young gay males get thrown out by their families, are on the street for a while, and prostitute, until someone keeps them. Geisha like. Sometimes the richer man (who might be the younger man) keeps the other man until he can get on his feet.

There's something very practical about it but that's not to say without love!

ARE YOU READY TO COME OUT OF THIS CLOSET?
