THE ISSUE OF CHILDREN : SHOULD YOU BE A MISTRESS? : OPINION BY MISSY

A question a woman should ask herself, and ask yourself this every few months while you still can, is DO I WANT CHILDREN? If so HOW MANY?
I was reading an interview that Kris Jenner "Momager" to the daughters who have all become rich over reality TV, endorsement, speaking engagements, commercials, and products they are associated with and own. She says she always knew she wanted many children.
Kris is a modern woman and she had to know that she would need a well-to-do husband to afford having many children. Luckily she married lawyer and businessman Robert Kardashian and he could afford having many children. Then she married Bruce Jenner, the superb athlete, who also gave her children, as well as giving another woman children and he also could afford to do so. None of these people seemed to be interested in limiting their family to one or two children, which is the fashionable choice (I think because children are barely affordable by most people.) There is a lot of pressure on women to have children as what is "normal" womanhood but there is also a lot of pressure in society to limit a family for ecological means.
A Mistress may have a relationship with a man who has enough money to afford children, or more children, but he may not want a second family because having children makes it more difficult to keep the relationship a secret and implies life-long connection.
Some of the mistresses I've covered here at MISTRESS MANIFESTO BLOGSPOT, have had extramarital children with the men who Kept them, such as BRUNA PALOMBA (Mistress of the Month August 2017) who had one daughter and Gordon Getty's Mistress CYNTHIA BECK Mistress of the Month February 2019 who had daughters. I admire the responsibility shown to these children by their fathers. (A longer list of Mistresses who had children is below.)
A woman should be using contraception until she is ready, willing, and able to be a mother. If she is not independently rich herself, she especially should be considering whether her partner is also ready, willing, and able to be a father. It means discussion.
Yet, though contraception (and abortion) has allowed Western women to have more choice, contraception has been known to fail or a particular contraception is medically ill advised and sometimes a woman just finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. When a woman wants to have a child and her man insists on an abortion or puts her in a position where she knows she will be stranded and alone trying to raise a child she personally cannot afford there is a lot of pressure on her to choose his way. (And I tire of hearing women blamed as if the men where not there.)
Yet, and I think this also has to do with money, if a woman is a Mistress and the man loves her and can afford to, he sometimes feels that he ought to allow her to go forward and have their child. He feels he should not rob her of the experience of having and raising a child and if he is much older he often sees that with a child she may not be alone in her own old age (though having a child does not guarantee they will care for a parent.)
If you are a young woman and you want a child or children, seriously communicate this with any man you get involved with. If a man wants to Keep you he especially needs to hear this. You need to keep your independence and find a way to support yourself so that you can leave him if you feel you are loosing years of your life in wait for him to change his mind about having a child with you or maybe leaving his other relationships, etc. You should be out there meeting people and dating, not staying in a relationship that will not bring you happiness since having children is one of the things that would make you happy.

Annabel had a child with Jimmy while married to Birley, and had more children with Goldsmith later. Her daughter by this liaison, a friend of Princess Diana, has publicly thanked her for having her.

Nicole Coste, Mistress of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Mother of his first son. Since they never married this son cannot take the throne of Monaco but back in the day before he was married to the present Princess who has had twins, reports were that Albert took an interest in his son with Nicole. Now this old relationship seems to be kept out of the media.

Karin Stanford, College Professor who had a child with Reverend Jesse Jackson. Both Karin and Jesse have barely been in the media for years.

A woman named Patricia who was raised by Marion's sister said she was told upon her wedding by Marion that Hearst was her real father. She looked like him. She died a while back and there was a claim against the estate by her grandchildren. This story also seems to have disappeared from the media.

Marita Lorenz, Mistress of Fidel Castro and General Marcos Peres Jimenes turned CIA collaborator. I once got a message from someone saying she was Marita's daughter and that a film was being made about her mother's life.

Well written - creatively written - but do I agree with Patt Morrison, an esteemed journalist and television personality circa 1998? In this article Patt says Monica Lewinsky seems so much less innocent than Judith Campbell Exner was at the same age. Yet, when I talk to older men they tell me that women in the 1950's were more mature than women of the same age in the 1960's. She also credits Judith with being far more discreet and not telling about her affair with J.F.K. to just anybody.

EVA BRAUN - LIFE WITH HITLER : HEIKE B GORTEMAKER
Back in June 2010, when I was just getting into the groove with this blog, I elected Eva Braun Mistress of the Month. It was easy to think of Eva because she was one of the most known, infamous, 20th century Mistresses ever and her story of being married at the very last moment to Adolf Hitler before the two of them commit suicide makes us wonder how she ever got involved, stayed with, and endured with a man who was so evil. Was she also evil?
Since then I've covered some other Mistresses who are part of the Holocaust history. You can find posts about them in the archives. November 2017 was dedicated to Righteous Gentile Oskar Schindler's (i.e. of the film Schindler's List) Mistresses. That month included a post about Ruth Irene Kalder, the Mistress of Nazi War Criminal Amon Goth (also in that film). June 2018 brought forth a new question about to CoCo Channel, the fashion designer, as I asked if she was a Nazi Spy or simply a Society Woman in Love due to her affair with Baron Hans Guther Von Dincklage.

Meanwhile, hardly any letters or personal documents exist from the dictator himself or from his companion of many years that shed any light on the nature of their relationship, or Eva Braun's role, or how she saw her role. It's well known that Hitler rarely wrote private letters, aside from thank-you notes or birthday cards. His secretary Christa Schroder, in fact, stated immediately after the end of the war that he had considered hit "his great strength" that "even in the years of struggle he wrote no letters." Such letters might have fallen, "into the wrong hands" and been "exploited." He also, before his suicide, made sure to destroy the greater part of his private correspondence, of which there was presumably little to begin with. Julius Schaub, hs adjutant of many years, left the bunker in Berlin for this reason at the end of April 1945, on direct orders from Hitler, in order to burn the private letters and files stored in safes at Hitler's Munich apartment and at the Berghof.

THIS "PRINCE OF THE REALM" COULD GET AWAY WITH EXTRAMARITAL ACTIVITIES
Reading around Mimi Alford, I learned that a writer working for the New York Daily News, an investigative journalist, had found out the name of President John F. Kennedy's young conquest. The paper ran three days of columns on the "Kennedy's Monica" then. Author Robert Dallek called it "off the wall" and "over the top" reportage. Dallek wrote about it in his book, "An Unfinished Life."

The director Filip Renc did not attend but phoned from Italy to the cinema at the festival.

When Frohlich, who had starred in Fritz Lang's 1927 film Metropolis found out, legend has it hat he challenged him to a duel. Frohlich was briefly detained in a concentration camp, but it was Goebbels wife, Magda, who went to Hitler about her husband's behavior. Hitler was furious, refusing Goebbels permission to divorce Magda and marry Baarova. Instead, he commanded Goebbels never to see his mistress again. Baarova fled to her native Prague, abandoning a glittering career.
Historians tell it slightly differently through the head of the Berlin police, Hitler ordered her extradition and banned her films.....

THE NAZI IDEAL : WOMAN AS WIFE AND MOTHER WITH A LARGE BROOD FOR THE FOLK
According to the site, AllThatsInteresting.com this poster shows a German family being protected by the wings of an eagle, one of the symbols of the Nazi party. The text reads:" The NSDAP protects the people. Your fellow comrades need your advice and help, so join the local party organization.
The collection features "21 Vile Nazi Propaganda posters" and many reveal the hatred and dehumanization of Jewish people. "These Nazi propaganda posters are repugnant in their message as they are impressive in their artistic craftsmanship."
Some of the old timers - who were perhaps naive themselves - expressed the belief that Lida Baarova was a young and naive woman rather than an evil one, perhaps a woman driven by lust. One wonders just how much she learned as time went on and how she felt about it.
Magda Goebbel, Jospeh Goebbel's wife, was under pressure to be the example to German wives and mothers yet she had affairs and in the end she and Joseph poisoned their children and themselves rather than be caught along with Hitler alive in a bunker when it was clear they were on the loosing side of the war.

Friends said the two had enjoyed a passionate relationship, although the former actress prevaricated until the last: "Yes, Goebbels fell in love with me but I didn't love him. .... "I was afraid of him and what he would do because I kept turning down his offers, although he always behaved charmingly and was always very nice to me. I remember he once gave me aq gold brace.et for Christmas. Hitler made a huge fuss about it. He called Goebbels in and told him to drop me and return to his wife and children. I couldn't take the pressure and I returned to Prague. Goebbels never tried to contact me again."
Note: What is not known by me is how much Lida revised her Goebbel's story as the years went by.

MISTRESS OF THE MONTH
When it comes to the Nazi's and the Holocaust it's easy with hindsight to condemn the women who became Mistresses to men who were Nazi's and to imagine they were (also) evil incarnate and deserving of horrible punishing fates. It's easy to think that they were ruined since they were on the loosing side of World War II.
Lida Baarova, as Ludmilla Babkova was known as an actress, was Czech - Slavic. Lida had a difficult life overall especially because her career was harmed by her involvement with one of the Nazi's finest, but she was a successful actress - her talent and beauty were never doubted but her politics was - and she lived a very long time into the year 2000. Her amazing filmography of over 60 films from 1931-1970 proves that she survived past her disastrous personal affairs and a honorable or dishonorable (depending on whose side you were on back in the day) experience of being Nazi Joseph Goebbels's mistress. In her later years she denied they had ever had sex but the affair was one to remember for many others.
You've heard of Joseph Goebbels and his wife Magda and their many children; he and his wife poisoned their children and then themselves in the very same bunker where Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun, his Mistress and last minute wife, would also kill themselves.
Joseph Goebbels' life certainly went into a surprising direction. Born into a Catholic family, he considered being a priest at one time but backed away from the church as his Naziism prevailed. He was a very intelligent man and earned a Masters degree and then a Ph.D. Physically he wasn't much. He was also known for the deformity of a right foot that turned in and made him walk with a limp. This was the kind of physical deformity that made so many others undesirable for the idealized perfection of the Nazi's who were excessively interested in genetics. He was a Reich Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945 and held other positions in Germany working for the Nazi party and Adolf Hitler, considered by some to be his right hand man. He was a public speaker. He was a womanizer. He became anti-semitism personified.
What could he have been thinking when he invited a famous Czech actress to move to Germany and make films with a neo-German sensibility?
Actress Tatiana Pahofova, a Slovak, acted as Lida in the fictive film.
I first heard about Lida over the New Year holiday. I reveled in being entirely alone for a few days and I binged on Netflix. I came across a film called The Devil's Mistress - Lida Baarova - which was quite dramatic and interesting but also condemning. I wish the film had a different title ; it sounded to be a horror flick, a genre I don't watch. The film came out in 2016 and the set up is as as a interview or confession. It became the prime reference point for this month's posts. Then I started reading around the Internet and watching YouTube videos about Lida, who is portrayed in the film as without apology. This month's posts will link to a number of articles and videos.
FIrst of all, as I watched this film, which is not a biography, I felt an inner tension. The question I had was left unanswered by the film was "Did Lida make films in Germany to survive?" She was a Slavic person - as Czech's are - and at the time lived in a country that was part of the Austrian empire. As any Holocaust historian will tell you, the Jews were just the first ethnic group the Nazi's wanted to destroy. They hated Slavic people too. The film doesn't suggest that Lida might have decided to do as Hitler wanted or Goebbels wanted so she herself could survive. In this film Lida Baarova is portrayed as having no guilt.

She had a serious relationship with a German, and fellow actor Gustav Frohlich, her costar in the Film Barcole in 1935. They lived a couple doors down from Goebbels according to one account. Astonishing for the time and place, they were not legally married. As he was married, she was first a mistress to him.
In the film The Devil's Mistress she is portrayed as having a family who were supportive of her career. She first wanted to be a ballerina. Her mother was an opera singer.
There are very many accounts of Lida's life and it gets confusing to sort out, especially as her own memory may have been edited. I will try to synthesize these accounts knowing that Lida was aware of how propaganda was supposed to work.
Hitler came to visit the studio in Austria and noticed her.
"Liduska" had an accent and was unable to pronounce unaccented German though she was expected to and studied the language but she was strikingly beautiful and - strangely - is supposed to have been the Nazi ideal of beauty - but in my opinion has the Slavic look of certain of my friends. She moved to Berlin and began to make films for that audience - propaganda films. It was considered a career move. Hollywood would have been a better move but it's said that she refused offers and lived to regret not becoming as big as Marlene Dietrich. So though she was established as an actress her German film making made her unpopular in her own country as she was seen as working for the enemy.
Goebbels was at the time of their relationship the Nazi Party's Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. The relationship happened fast, from when they met in September of 1936 to August 1938. She lived to regret it and her own country never forgave her. Was she simply nieve? Propelled by lust?
Magda Goebbels, the wife of Joseph, was considered a role model for German women as a wife and mother and she had a reputation to uphold. Knowing of the affair with Lida, she went to Hitler and told him she wanted the affair to end. Since Goebbels was a womanizer, Lida was not the first or last threat to Magda's marriage. Perhaps the relationship between Lida and Joseph was the most intense and serious, the biggest threat to Magda's marriage to that point. Magda reportedly also had affairs. As evidence for the seriousness of their relationship, Goebbels attempted to have Lida move in with him at his villa.
Hitler, who Lida says never liked the involvement she had with Goebbels, insisted that Goebbels break with Lida rather than leave his wife for her. He did and some reports suggest he considered suicide. That left Lida in a horrible place to be in; She ran home to Czechoslovakia, where she was hated, and again, maybe it's that Hitler banished her and her films, and then in 1943 went to Rome. She worked on films with Italian film directors Antonio de Sica and Federico Fellini. But in 1945 American troops arrested her as a Gestapo spy.
Lida Baarova managed to marry again and again. After the war, in 1947, she married Jan Kopecky and stayed married to him till they divorced in 1956. In 1969 she married Kurt Lundvall, who died in 1972. She had Parkinson's disease but lived until 2000, age 86.

Lida had a difficult life overall especially because her career was harmed by her involvement with one of the Nazi's finest, but she was a successful actress - her talent and beauty were never doubted but her politics was - and she lived a very long time into the year 2000. Her amazing filmography of over 60 films from 1931-1970 proves that she survived past her disastrous personal affairs and a honorable or dishonorable (depending on whose side you were on back in the day) experience of being Nazi Joseph Goebbels's mistress. In her later years she denied they had ever had sex but the affair was one to remember for many others.

He was a very intelligent man and earned a Masters degree and then a Ph.D. Physically he wasn't much. He was also known for the deformity of a right foot that turned in and made him walk with a limp. This was the kind of physical deformity that made so many others undesirable for the idealized perfection of the Nazi's who were excessively interested in genetics. He was a Reich Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945 and held other positions in Germany working for the Nazi party and Adolf Hitler, considered by some to be his right hand man. He was a public speaker. He was a womanizer. He became anti-semitism personified.
What could he have been thinking when he invited a famous Czech actress to move to Germany and make films with a neo-German sensibility?

I first heard about Lida over the New Year holiday. I reveled in being entirely alone for a few days and I binged on Netflix. I came across a film called The Devil's Mistress - Lida Baarova - which was quite dramatic and interesting but also condemning. I wish the film had a different title ; it sounded to be a horror flick, a genre I don't watch. The film came out in 2016 and the set up is as as a interview or confession. It became the prime reference point for this month's posts. Then I started reading around the Internet and watching YouTube videos about Lida, who is portrayed in the film as without apology. This month's posts will link to a number of articles and videos.
