MAY FUNG YEE PANG ON HER NEW DOCUMENTARY

The word Mistress seems to bring fantasies of riches and great beauty, women in their youth, and with much older men. But as we learn more about the real lives of women who have been in relationships other than traditional marriage, we also learn that being a Mistress rarely lasts an entire lifetime, and that Mistresses too get older.

May Fung Yee Pang was born in 1950 and John Lennon, the famous ex-Beatle, was born in 1940, ten years earlier. He was married to Yoko Ono at the time.  She was born in 1933.  Does age matter?

My feeling is often it does, but not always. Sometimes experiencing life means a person gains wisdom, sometimes not. What strikes me is that Yoko was raised in a Japanese upper class culture in which women thought a man having a mistress was not such a big deal.  I tend to think that attitude is also because marriages were arranged or at least highly encouraged and there was not and still is not much support for a woman or a man remaining unmarried.

As May Pang says, Yoko might have been a Japanese wife but she herself was not, she was a Chinese-American woman.  (And while John was a decade older than May, Yoko was seventeen years older.)

Through her documentary, which is respected, May's place in Rock and Roll History remains.  In recent weeks a concert called The Lost Weekend took place at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, one of the clubs most associated with Rock and Roll.  May was there to celebrate the music of John Lennon.  As she says, during their time together he was especially productive writing and recording songs.

In this YouTube video, May, now officially a senior, talks about those days in her life in which she was in love with John.  In keeping with my policy not to embed videos that have commercials, I'll just give you the link.

PAMELA DES BARRES : A WELL KNOWN MUSICAL MUSE BUT A MISTRESS NOT!

Pamela DesBarres, born Pamela Miller, once upon a time Queen of the (Los Angeles) Groupies, is now a successful author based on a number of books she's published such as "I'm With The Band," and "Let's Spend The Night Together," and "Take Another Piece Of My Heart."  These books recount her adventures as a Groupie, and then as a woman (eventually) married to a British rock star, Michael Des Barres, as well as the mother of a brilliant child, who goes through a divorce. Her writing is always explicit, exciting, and heart-full. I've read every one of her books over the years.

She looks just like you or me in her high school yearbook picture, but she had a different World View, and the clubs on the Sunset Strip were not so far from her family home in a working class suburb of The San Fernando Valley.

When it comes to Groupies, she was one with a Heart of Gold.

Friends of mine think Pamela is way too "talkie" to be a good Mistress! Men might be scared off because they could end up in her book, if she wants to write about them! Does she have to name names?   (Yes, she really does!)

Another reason friends think so is that Pamela, and other groupies, seem to be so not materialism that they're practically sacrificial. Pamela's had lots of adventures but she's wasn't materialistic enough; she stood by her husband when they were low income, living with friends, between jobs, even took dumb jobs. She was just too self sacrificing, they say, but then again, I say, she's managed to make her own way in life. One snotty person said, "She has even made herself into a 'cottage industry'!"" (We could say that about Angelyn!)  If she were a man they'd say that she is a ROCK AND ROLL HISTORIAN!

Pamela now not only writes books but teaches writing workshops - Los Angeles - Vegas - Chicago - New York - gives rock and roll tours around the Sunset Strip area of Hollywood, and well... here is her site, with lots of sexy and fun pictures!

He tackles the term Groupies, saying these girls were a force of nature...

FROM the YOUTUBE Presenter of this Video:

MICHAEL DES BARRES (PAMELA's EX HUSBAND and the FATHER OF THEIR CHILD) LOVES HER WRITING

"Michael Des Barres is the host of Little Steven's Underground Garage on SiriusXM Radio, Channel 21 every weekday morning at 8am ET and again at Midnight ET. He has appeared in countless feature films and television shows and sold seven million albums as a writer and artist. A working musician for five decades, he has performed around the world from backroom bars to Live Aid. Michael’s enduring love of Delta blues and the rock and soul of the mid-60s beat boom is exemplified by his days as front man for such seminal bands as Silverhead, Chequered Past, Power Station and Detective, a band personally signed by Jimmy Page to Swan Song Records."

LISA L. RHODES "ELECTRIC LANDLAND" on WOMEN IN ROCK N ROLL INCLUDING GROUPIES

That picture on the cover of the book isn't Lisa, but a famous Groupie at the time.
She has the look of someone who knows the score and has seen it all.

ELECTRIC LADYLAND, WOMEN and ROCK CULTURE, 1965-1975 by
Lisa L. Rhodes, who was part of the scene as a singer and made her own album, takes on the question of the role of women in popular music during the early explosion of Rock along with the sexual revolution, in an interesting book, and one for my library.

To do so she looked at how women in music were portrayed by the media, in particular in Rolling Stone Magazine, as male journalists quoted the musicians and singers and others looked at women's sexuality in old, sexist ways.  About half of her book is about Groupies, how they were defined in the media, Time Magazine also having published an early article about them because they were considered to be a phenomena.

Some of you will think "Why did they let themselves get used?"  Others may think, "Why didn't I run away with the band?"

Page XI

"Another reason to study rock women stems from the fat that between 1965 and 1975 gender roles were in flux in America and these women were in the front lines of the gender wars of the late 1960's and early 1970's.  For example, by redefining what it mean to be a female musician or write, these women were helping to change perceptions about women in general.  The groupies, with their freewheeling sexuality, were also helping to reinterpret what it meant to be a sexually active woman in the music scene, as well as the role of girlfriends, lover, wife, and whore.  The activities of all these women helped to establish gender roles as they exist in America today."

Page XIV

"I chose rock music because it conveys power and being a woman in our society offers us precious little of that commodity." ... Performing music at loud volume means different things to women than it does to men.  As women we are (usually) told all our lives in subtle and not so subtle ways to be quiet, at least more quiet than the men around us.  For women to take center stage, literally, and draw attention to themselves through the employment of loud volume is thus a truly liberating act..."

Rhodes also takes on these: Did the 1960's have its own moral code, as what is considered pedophilia now is viewed by some as sexual experimentation?  Did adult women Groupies basically become slaves to men they idolized or where they liberated hero worshipers?

NANCY LEE ANDREWS : PHOTOGRAPHER MISTRESS OF RINGO STAR : MISTRESS OF THE MONTH

 NANCY LEE ANDREWS

Picture from Nancy Lee Andrews Photography...
(What a gorgeous "older" woman!)

Nancy was born May 14, 1947.
Nancy married Edwin Barnes in 1990.

CLICK HERE TO SEE A GREAT PHOTO OF NANCY ANDREWS FROM 2011

Like Beatlemate Paul McCartney's wife, Linda Eastman, Ringo Starr had a rock n' roll photographer in his romantic life, for several years.

Nancy Lee Andrews published this book in 2008.  In some promos of the book, she is described as a "half Sicilian and half Cherokee" Ford model working in Manhattan in the 1960's and 1970's. Her relationship with the ex-Beatle's drummer gave her access to the rock and roll stars she photographed.  The pictures in the book were taken for a decade beginning in 1970.

She also published this limited edition book of all Ringo photos taken in the mid 1970's.

*******
When their relationship was over, Nancy Lee Andrews went after Ringo Starr for Palimony, according to a new book, called "RINGO - With A Little Help" - and according to one interviewee in the book, Ringo did right by Nancy financially.  And you know, I expected that of Ringo.  I think he's a decent man.

NO MENTION OF NANCY IN THIS ONE!

I looked all over the web for more information about the Palimony case. I even read this new book on Beatle's law suits trying to find out more, but there was nothing in "Baby You're A Rich Man," about lawsuits outside of the music business.

On the web, on Getty Images, there are pictures of Nancy and her famous Palimony Lawyer, Marvin Mitchelson, but I've been unable to verify that whatever money she got from Ringo was actually the result of that level of legal action, unlike the information previously linked to on this blog when I covered Ruth Tryangiel, the mistress of musician Bob Dylan, which was legally negotiated.  In the book one interviewee suggests that Nancy's real motive wasn't money but - how shall I say this - that she felt betrayed by Barbara Bach, a model she once thought of as friendly - and thought Ringo needed a wake up call.

(I'll think on that!)

A woman is involved with a man long term.  She may be living with him.  If they don't live together, they are spending a lot of time together at his place or hers.  They go on vacations together.  They consider themselves to be a couple.  They hold themselves out to be a couple to others. Their friends, family, and business associates all know about them and go places and do things with them.  It's not a sneaky, secret relationship.  They may even be engaged to be married or at least talking about it.  Maybe there has even been a proposal and a ring that is worn.  Well, all their friends think they will marry eventually.

No one is thinking this woman is a Mistress.

Then, one day the man meets someone else.  He suddenly feels he has met The One, and he will marry that Other Woman, as soon as he can.  Leaving his Ready Steady Go woman wondering what the hell happened, in shock, in pain, and maybe even in some serious economic need. Wondering what, if anything, she ever was to him, not wanting to consider that maybe he cheated before, maybe she was never the only one, what the hell.

After years of reading around the subject and writing this blog I no longer think that we can and should only apply the term "Mistress" to relationships that are occurring in adultery.   (The press should also stop calling a woman a "Mistress" when there is no relationship, like when she slept with a married celebrity and then told or got caught by the tabloids.)

So, was Ringo married when he and Nancy Lee got together?  No. And was she?  No.

But then, why the Palimony suit against Ringo when he didn't follow through after their  years together that seemed to be headed towards marriage, but ended when he fell in love at first sight with Barbara Bach, who he has been with ever since...

PALIMONEY is actually rooted in the 19th century.

Breach Of Promise.

It may stun some of you, but a hundred and more years ago, when a woman was engaged to a man and he cancelled the engagement, it was considered a Breach of Promise.  She was to give back his ring. (She wore it but it wasn't really hers until the marriage was a done deal.  Though maybe no other woman would want to be the next to wear such a ring with it's bad vibes and association with another woman, engagement rings were not gifts but the way of confirming that Promise.)  The couple also were to RETURN EACH OTHERS LOVE LETTERS; there was no tacky revenge postings on the Internet.  People with class acted honorable. It was a much higher level of privacy expected and respected.  What they wrote and what they said was forever between them and it was expected that they would both keep their private business private.  No one with any manners who expected to be eligible to marry again would be so mean to rub salt into the wounds.

When the engagement had been announced in the papers or was known to the set of society one belonged to, the Broken Engagement had the potential to ruin a reputation.  Most of all it was assumed that during the period of loyalty and faithfulness prior to marriage that she (and he?) kept to, she had been OFF THE MARKET, a waste of her valuable time, when she should have been IN THE MARKET for MARRIAGE, that means meeting or being introduced to other men rather than tied up with one.  After all, unless you were an heiress, (and most inheritances were given to sons, especially the eldest son), you had to marry and be supported by a man, or waste away as a Spinster.  That time off the market was valuable time because while a woman was in the commitment that the engagement was, she could not date others.  There wasn't much one could do to save face when their Intended changed his or her mind so far into it and certainly it was better to have a broken engagement than a bad marriage but sometimes the man was banished from society, at least from the set he'd been associated with.

These days Breach of Promise type lawsuits seem to occur only when the actual wedding is cancelled after a serious expenditure of non refundable money.  (You read about the wedding feast being donated to the homeless by the stood up bride.)

Nancy Lee Andrews, and other women, have asked their rich exes for money, or sued for Palimony when they took significant time off from their owns means of support, be that modeling or photography or whatever, or their ability to make a living suffered, but Nancy Lee at least turned her treasure of photographs into books she sold.  Ringo's Breach of Promise meant not being able to live the life of financial ease that she had become accustomed to as his girlfriend/fiancée/Mistress.

A Mistress, as a companion who sometimes travels on business or for pleasure with her man, can't be there for him and also be punching a clock or be expected to be at the office full time. Nancy Lee traveled with Ringo and she was there for him, but she was also behind the camera.

RINGO STARR DID RIGHT BY NANCY LEE ANDREWS
when he left their relationship
to be with Barbara Bach
according to this book which is a primary reference
for this months MISTRESS OF THE MONTH.

I thought the title of this book, was snide, though the author, Michael Seth Starr (no relation to Ringo), is well respected for his past and present writing.  Help as in "this guy needs it.  He can't do it alone." What is true is that, Richard Starkey, as the Beatles' loyal drummer and sometimes singer who, like the other three Beatles, found himself in need of a second and third act after amazing worldly success in that band at an early age, did go through a tough time.

The story of Ringo's attempt to figure out what was next for him has its successes and failures, and mostly he has come out on top, with his long second marriage, to once upon a time James Bond movie actress, Barbara Bach, a music career solo and separate of the Beatles, a charity that he is devoted to, and even being the focus of a special show at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

GRAMMY MUSEUM - RINGO STARR PEACE AND LOVE
I went and loved the show.
There was happiness in the air there.

I've always suspected that it was Ringo who was the peacemaker of the Beatles. Ringo is the one who all three others kept in touch with in the years after the band broke up and they all went their own solo-career ways.  His signature has become "Peace and Love."

The Nancy Lee Andrews days were, however, not always his best days, though you can find many photos of the couple on Google Images and other Internet sources, with and with other musicians and Beatles, looking happy and having a great time.

Ringo took to hard partying with certain of his musician pals, mostly drink but drugs too, in particular cocaine, and Nancy, at the end of their relationship, even as he had met Barbara, was assigned to be his "minder," the term used here to mean, someone who travels and keeps tabs on an out of control addict, so that he won't get into any real trouble.

Ringo, it's reported in this book, and elsewhere reported along with Barbara, did get rehab.  He must have been disgusted with his life at that point and hit the very scary rock bottom, because he has been sober successfully since and is even a Vegan!  All good things for Ringo, who prefers to be known as Richard Starkey, his family name before fame.

Nancy Lee Andrews proves to us that being a Mistress is not often a life long commitment  and that a woman can get back to having a career whatever her romantic status was.

COMING UP : THIS ROCK AND ROLL MISTRESS GOT DITCHED BY ONE OF THE FAB FOUR

and she sued for PALIMONY...

FAMOUS ROCK STARS often have mistresses. In the past here at MISTRESS MANIFESTO I've covered RUTH TRIANGIEL, Bob Dylan's mysterious muse and mistress who sued and won, and JERRY HALL, the mistress of sexaholic and cheap skate Mick Jagger, who accept a measly amount of money after a split we can't call a divorce because her marriage to Mick was declared invalid.  (Great news her marriage to Rupert!)  I've also covered the mistress of John Lennon, selected by his wife, Yoko, MAY PANG - who was left unemployed and with no good bye money at all.

JIM MORRISON'S MOTEL ROOM AT THE ALTA CIENEGA MOTEL - FANS DID THE GRAFFITI

Jim Morrison stayed at other motels and hotels in Los Angeles and in New York and wasn't on the road, even when he was paying Pam's rent on an apartment or house.  The Alta Cienega is one of them.  It wasn't far from the Door's office in what is now West Hollywood.

JUDY HUDDLESTON'S RECENT MEMOIR REVEALS YET ANOTHER RELATIONSHIP WITH JIM MORRISON

SINCE I WANT MY READERS TO FOCUS ON OTHER MAN SHARING MISTRESSES I'VE DECIDED TO TAKE THIS MONTH DOWN - AT LEAST FOR A WHILE! Thanks for reading! Missy Beginning in 1965, when she was a teenager without a strong sense of self who went to Doors concerts, Judy Huddleston had a four year relationship with Jim Morrison, while he also had Pamela and Patricia and who knows how many others.

I read this book and found it to be reportage without introspection and not humorous but cold.  The reportage given that Morrison was an anal rapist in this book was extremely upsetting.

With forward by Pamela Des Barres, a famous groupie who has written a series of interesting books about her life and the experiences of other groupies, LOVE HIM MADLY is also about a subculture of musical Hollywood.  I never thought  of Judy as a "mistress" while I was reading it.  I think "groupie" may  be better for categorizing what Judy was to Jim at that long ago time in her youth.  (Today she is a successful professor who teaches writing.)  You may read this book and totally disagree with me!

JIM MORRISON and PATRICIA KENNEALY MORRISON and PAMELA COURSON : WHO WAS THE DOORS SHAMAN - ROCKSTAR'S MISTRESS?

NOTE IN AUGUST 2018  I'm still receiving the equivalent of hate comments about Patricia, without focus on JIM and his responsibility in all the relationships he was carrying on.  One person mentioned Mary Werblow...  please send a link or more information so I can find out how she fits into the combinations.  As for Patricia, I personally don't think she's as bad as so many people seem to think.  But I also believe we are all responsible for our own souls.  Let's remember that she too was young, and think about all the things you did for love that might not make sense to anyone else!  Missy

NOTE: IN NOVEMBER 2017 I decided to put this month back up after a pause.  Basically I feel many months that are just as worthy of reading were being ignored over this month.  Right away people were chiming in on the question I suppose I posed using the title than I have.  So please hear me out on this.  There is so much focus on the women and in particular, because Patricia wrote a deeply personal memoir, a focus on if she's truthful or not.  BUT THE REAL ISSUE FOR ME IS MORE ABOUT JIM MORRISON and HIS ABILITY TO HAVE MULTIPLE RELATIONSHIPS, SOME SIMULTANEOUS.  I don't think he felt any guilt over triangulated relationships, making women compete over him, leading women on, or any of it.  He was assuming a male privilege, I think, especially because he could, being famous.  So this is a popular month and popular post and as a result, I would like more COMMENTARY on how JIM was conducting HIS RELATIONSHIPS!  Missy

Missy UPDATE February 2017
Just finished reading this very short e-book, which repeats a chapter from Patricia's earlier memoir, focusing on the engagement and marriage ceremony.  The book has a forward that is honestly opinionated against Pamela. Easily available through many libraries as an e-book, you might want to read it.  Patricia says that she holds Pamela responsible for Jim's death, that he had told her, as well as others, and his attorney that he was going to use the time in Paris to break with Pamela, and that he was disgusted with Pamela's heroin use and had not been a user himself!

******

Patricia Kennealy Morrison is called Jim Morrison's widow.   She's also called THE LIZARD QUEEN.

Patricia Keannealy in her twenties about the time she was with Jim.

UPDATE APRIL 2016  A New Documentary/ Independent Film About JIM MORRISON
coming soonBILLBOARD - JIM MORRISON DOC - EARLY YEARS (2013 announcement of the project by Filmmakers Jeff Finn and Jess Finn looking for kickstarter funds.)  I heard about it on Coast to Coast AM the other night (sleepless!  My dog barking at cats fighting in the backyard!) and let's just say that maybe... just maybe Jim did fake his own death!?)

It's titled BEFORE THE END: THE SEARCH FOR JIM MORRISON

If you've seen the Oliver Stone film THE DOORS, or read around this subject, say for instance Patricia's enthralling book, pictured below, STRANGE DAYS - MY LIFE WITH AND WITHOUT JIM MORRISON, you know that she and Jim married in a Celtic-Pagan witch ceremony called a handfasting.  They knew it wasn't legally binding without a Civil marriage, which never took place, but it was spiritually binding and for Patricia that meant for as long as she loves him and she still does.

You may also know that Jim Morrison died in Paris in 1971 and that there is still some mystery attached to his death.  In his will he left everything to Pamela Susan Courson who had been introducing herself as "Mrs. Morrison," for years.  What you may not know is that Pamela's parents, who inherited the Jim Morrison estate when she died a few years later, went to court to have her relationship with Jim declared a common law marriage.

According to Patricia, Jim told her that he and Pamela had lived with each other on and off and that he was ending his relationship with Pamela by going to Paris; He pretty much stayed in motels.  He said he was coming back to the states and wanted them to live together in the fall in New York.

Jim knew that Pamela called herself his wife.  He told Patricia not to mind Pamela's declarations since it wasn't true.  Even Pamela admitted to Patricia that there was never a legal marriage. (I'll get to the revealing discussion the two women had later this month!)

Is the fact that Jim Morrison was living in Paris with Pamela when he died and that his will left everything to her the most telling about who he really considered to be his "life partner" ?

Pamela Courson in her twenties about the time she knew Jim.
She was Jim's girlfriend for at least a couple years before he met Patricia.
Both women were aware and accepted that the shaman-rock star
JIM MORRISON
also had affairs and groupies.

When a rock star has so very many women interested in him, women willing to do things his way, he gets spoiled.  At the time of Morrison's death it is rumored that at least 20 women were filing for support for children they said were his.  (These days with DNA testing it would be more interesting!  Haven't heard anything more about this, have you?)  Yes, I read this on the internet, one of many sites including Patricia's blog that I read before I wrote this article!   I also read a newish book that just came out by another writer, Judy Huddelston's LOVE HIM MADLY, about her dysfunctional relationship with Morrison.  (Was there any other kind?)

Personally, I don't think I could give a man like Jim Morrison more than a few minutes!  He seemed to not just triangulate his relationship with Pamela and Patricia, but butt women against each other with himself as the prize!

Is a woman calling him her husband, telling the world that there is a marriage there, her way of holding on to him or competing with other women?   Does the woman consider herself to be the wife because she is OK with his other women so long as she's his number one woman/wife?

How much of these women's attitudes about their relationships - Jim's multiple relationships - was part of the Hippie era ethic?  Love The One You're With?

Is the true test of being a wife or a mistress about money? ... Pamela got thousands of dollars from Jim while he was still alive to open a clothing boutique which she was ultimately not interested in.  She may have never fully supported herself financially and needed Jim's money.  He felt she needed him. Patricia was self supporting and didn't expect or ask for any support - except for the money for an expensive late term abortion.

I've long loved the movie, THE DOORS.  I thought it captured the excitement and controversy of an era.  I also didn't know that it wasn't completely accurate until I read Patricia's book.  She needed to clarify the exaggeration of the blood letting scene.  Her apartment living room was tiny and there were only ritual nicks and just a few drops of blood to seal the marriage oath - not a blood bath!

It was a courageous book, especially her honesty about that late saline abortion she endured way back when New York was a rare state that allowed abortions.  It was horrific, what women suffered.

I think you have to think about the Hippie Era to try and wrap your mind around these women's attitudes, because while each was claiming to be his wife, they also knew he had other women, from Groupies, to other relationships.   I think the right term for all these relationships is "Open."

I think what these women put up with is much more than most modern mistresses put up with!  - or should!

In the book I found some passages that reveal that Patricia too wondered about Jim conducting relationships with both of them at the same time.  The two women actually managed to have some confrontations as well as conversations with each other in New York and in Los Angeles.   Patricia dared ask herself "What does he see in her?"

You have to know also that all three used a lot of drugs, his being mostly alcohol, but still drugs that altered moods, reduced inhibitions, and could have set all three on the path to self destruction.

It's Patricia who survived though it seems clear if you read her book, written years after Jim's Death, or even her more current blog, that she's never gotten over Jim Morrison.   I feel for her.  If he is not her ghostly lover, than through the years other men have felt they couldn't compete with him!

Patricia has been a professional writer since her recent college grad days in the mid 1960's and was a rare woman editor of a music magazine when she met Jim but it took more than writing expertise to do this book.

Now if you take a quick look at the cover, you might think to yourself - hey there's Pamela on Patricia's book cover.   Well, actually Pamela and Patricia, while not identical, had some things in common besides relationships going with Jim Morrison at the same time.  Yes, they were both light skinned, red haired beauties, though physically and intellectually dissimilar. (Patricia's long dark auburn hair reached 3 feet long! and she was a member of Mensa, while Pam, according to Patricia, was ditzy.)

Could it be that the two of them were like one whole woman to Morrison, each supplying something the other could not ?

Today Patricia is in her 60's and the writer of a successful series of fantasy books.  She has continued her occult studies and is a High Priestess as well as a minister in the Universal Light Church and can conduct a marriage ceremony for you!  She has also been Knighted in Scotland.

Pam didn't live all that much longer than Jim, having finally gotten through all the estate hassles of being his only heir, and then dieing of a heroin overdose.   Patricia speculates that because the Jim Morrison she knew wasn't into heroin that Pamela may have had more to do with his death than she admitted to or was held responsible for.  Could she have administered a fatal dose of drug because she knew she was loosing Jim to a serious rival - Patricia?  One witness years later said that Jim had died in a toilet at the Rock and Roll Circus club and his body had been moved to the apartment bathtub.  Pamela was never the writerly type and is not around to speak for herself.

Part of my question here is the one I've been asking since the beginning of this blog.  HOW DO YOU DEFINE MISTRESS IN A TIME WHEN SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SKIPPING MARRIAGE?  When people keep separate residences but consider themselves to be a committed couple?  When each is self supporting so being a mistress is not about being supported?  Is the definition financial?

Stick with me as I provide you the telling quotes from Patricia's book, and try to figure this one out myself, using the work of DR. TONI GRANT!

C 2014 All Rights Reserved Mistress Manifesto/Missy Rapport

P.S.  It's 2016!  This post has been featured on many Internet search engines due to its great popularity, but let me explain to you that MISTRESS MANIFESTO is a blog about Mistresses, and alternative relationships that are not traditional marriage between just two people, and over the years I've covered - and still cover - many other interesting people and related subjects.  I invite you, now that you're here, to go to the top of this blog, or to go through the archives, and choose one or more TOPICS to read before you leave us!  This year I've covered the Silent Screen actress CLARA BOW, and the Mother of Modern Dance, ISADORA DUNCAN, and am planning a number of surprises in the coming months! I love reading, researching, and writing this blog!  Thanks for your visit!  Missy

P.S. It's May of 2017.  I was just reading over Comments, some which I haven't published, about this post.  I'm aware that some readers feel the need to take sides here between Patricia and Pam so let me clarify some things.  First I read Patricia's memoir, which is very emotional as well as very detailed.  I took notes.  I read it again. When I read Comments taking vicious slings and calling her delusional, I have to say READ HER BOOK COVER TO COVER.  Do you really think that a respected film director like Oliver Stone would risk having her as a consultant on the film THE DOORS, risk all that Hollywood money, his own reputation, if HE thought she was delusional?  The other problem is that in such a complicated situation - and she admits everyone including she was using drugs or alcohol for some or all of it - no two person are going to have the very same perception, opinion, or experience, and the only thing she can do as a writer is SPEAK HER OWN TRUTH.  Jim isn't here to give us his side of the story and neither is Pamela, and there were other women too. I'm convinced she did.  I'm also sure that as the years have gone by she may have a different perspective about those times and her life than when she was living them. Hers is not an easy story to tell.  Ultimately, it is her KARMA. Haven't you looked back at a relationship you once had and retell yourself a story about it?

MISSY SPEAKS ON MODELS AND ROCKSTARS

Missy here.

I'm aware that these days Models, particularly in New York and Los Angeles, are often kept by music men - Rock Stars!

Rock Stars often have Groupies too.  Some of them have women - girlfriends, mistresses, and Groupies, all around the world.

So why would a man want to keep a woman when he can have all that sex, without any responsibility at all to those woman?

Maybe because he wants to make his life more simple (yes really!) by having one woman in the world that he feels true to. Maybe he loves a particular woman but also feels he has chance most men don't and doesn't want to say no to sexual experiences. Maybe he keeps a woman because he can show her off to other men - his band mates - the world!

I also know of women of all shapes, sizes, and degrees of beauty, who are/were keeping their musician boyfriend, working hard and long and paying all the bills to support them both, so he can pursue his Rock Star career.  These women are paying for rehearsal time, nights out to schmooze, clothes - I mean wardrobe - costumes!  They believe in him and they also want the excitement of a Rock Star lifestyle.

When a man keeps a woman, he most often keeps her from other men, the competition, keeps her from dating.

And when a woman keeps a man?

These women who keep their Rock-Star-to-be-boyfriends are not without their own ambitions, usually to be the man's wife and share in his success. I don't know how many of them achieve this.

Another reason there is the Rock Star - Model connection is that to be successful many Models quit high school at 16 and make it to a big city where they are very vulnerable, on their own for the first time without much real chaperoning. They are often too trusting for the situation of having so very many men chasing after them and feel better about having just one man, often a worldly older man, in their lives.

While this relationship can have advantages, usually when you're a teenager your boyfriend should probably be another teenager, but to get real, the young model with the older man as a lover is common and so is a young model being kept by a photographer or someone else in the business. (I'm saying younger here but I'm concerned about jail bait young.)

At the same time a lot of Rock Stars are also dropping out of school young to pursue their music, to get a head start in an occupation that is driven by youth.  You could say that the models and rock stars have that youth, ambition, and the zeal of the new and so much else in common.

It can all be really adventurous and heady.

Another reason there are so many Model - Rock Star connections is that once a woman is modeling she meets a whole lot of other models who have men in their lives that make life easier for them - sweeter - or who want to keep them. There's a lot of struggle in modeling for most who aspire to it. While taking so much rejection it can be wonderful to come home to someone who thinks you're special enough to be helped.

YOU?

MISSY ASKS : DO YOU LIVE VICARIOUSLY THROUGH A ROCK STAR ?

So many women are drawn to the excitement of being with the band.
Are you a groupie?

Are you the mistress of a rock star?

Do you share him with other women? (Should I ask?)
