Excerpt pages 52 and 53

(The divorce attorney for Barbara Jean Finch, the murdered wife of Doctor Finch, Joseph T, Forno of Los Angeles, gave telephone interviews to several newspapers.)

"Dr Finch threated a number of times to take Mrs. Finch to the desert and kill her," he was quoted.  When asked about the status of the divorce action, he noted that the Finches had been scheduled to appear in conciliation court the next day to discuss their differences. "Dr. Finch had expressed a desire to reconcile with his wife. The divorce action was postponed. In the meantime, we asked for all of the community property and estimated it was worth $500,000 to $1,000.000." (Note that in 2025 dollars that is about five to eleven million dollars.)

"No fault divorce" was not to come for many years. A wife who could prove "fault," especially adultery, had a very good chance of getting virtually all of the community property.

Forno served  a restraining order on Dr. Finch. "We filed an order to show cause after he violently assaulted his wife on June 25 of this year, trying to force her into his automobile. Dr. Finch had threated his wife with a gun in the past also. She was in constant fear for her life.  This was preceded by an attempt on May 16 to strangle her at her home in West Covina." Forno continued. It was after this first assault Mrs. Finch decided to file for divorce."

Mrs. Finch had filed divorce papers, and at a June 11 hearing before Superior Court Judge Roger A. Pfaff, had requested and been granted $1,650 a month in alimony and child support. She was also given complete control of Dr. Finch's revenues from the clinic. All the revenues were deposited into her personal checking account.  Barbara Jean paid the clinic's bills with her personal checks. She also signed her husband's salary checks.

.... Interestingly, the most recent (malpractice) suit had been filed by James T. Pappa, former husband of Carole Tregoff Pappa.  Mr. Pappa filed his suit the Tuesday before the murder, claiming Cinch had negligently repaired a knee abnormality.

In my opinion, erratic driving, possibly alcoholism, unnecessary surgeries just to make money, and malpractice suits against him proved that the doctor was not necessarily rational or trustworthy and may have been driven by lust and money. However, California has been a community property state since no-fault divorce and by today's standards the Doctor's wife getting everything including future profits from his clinic would probably be considered extreme, unless perhaps he was considered incompetent.

How did 22 year old Carole Tregoff get involved in this?  Was it love?  I think OBSESSION!

Our Honorary Mistress of the month in October 2010, Angelyne threw her see through pumps in to the ring - one of about 46 candidates competing to take over from Governor Newsom in an expensive and time wasting recall vote. Larry Elder, a KFI radio personality and Republican is the front runner should this Republican lead recall actually happen, and as for the Democrats -well, we may as well vote for Angelyne. I think Newsom should stay in office.

Though I don't generally get into politics here at Mistress Manifesto BlogSpot, the truth is I don't blame any of our politicians, doctors, or other experts and leaders for being GOBSMACKED by Covid-19, which is an unprecedented historical event with serious and ongoing ramifications. People point out to me the flu epidemic circa 1916-1919 as if there were vaccines at the time. 

As time goes on there is continually more information and some of it may ultimately prove to be right. I think what a wonder it is that here in the First World we have so much knowledge earned by medical science. I'm still meeting people who refuse to take the vaccine. I have two friends who have long term Covid which they got on a cruise ship early on that was out of Fort Lauderdale. One has an enlarged heart.  The other can't get his balance. This was well before there were vaccines and they both have donated their blood to try and help other people.

Another friend took the Pfizer and proceeded to take three trips during lock down, a road trip to New Orleans, a trip out of the country, and a trip to see family in the Midwest - these last two trips by air.  

Word has reached me that a friend who is Bible based and who goes to a church where they are mostly Republican and did not get the vaccine, has a minister and a Bible study leader in intensive care with Covid.  They had continued to meet for services.

I took the Johnson (J&J/Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine) after not being able to get any of the 2 shots locally with ease. That early morning as I sat with another half dozen people six feet apart on folding chairs, I wondered if I was doing the right or best thing.  I thought maybe I was just a follower or weak willed. As time goes on, though I did have side effects, I came to realize that it was the best thing to do considering I have no medical conditions. If a person is immune compromised, as cancer patients often are, then I think, they should follow their doctor's recommendations. I don't believe conspiracy theories such as that the government is using the vaccine to put chips in people. Or that the whole thing was just a Big Pharma money making scheme.

SEX TRAFFICKING : MORE PEOPLE ARE SEX TRAFFICKED TODAY THEN THERE WERE EVER AFRICAN SLAVES IN AMERICA

This month I'm featuring a special subject, SEX TRAFFICKING, a form of slavery.  I want my readers to know about this scourge of abuse that is often perpetrated on people below the age of consent, which is 18. Even 14 year olds living with their parents can be trafficked. I'm writing this post having read, listened, and watched on this subject until I felt sick. This month's writing has been the most emotionally draining I've ever experienced as the author of MISTRESS MANIFESTO BLOGSPOT.

I want everyone to have CHOICES and to give consent that is informed with self knowledge and truth. I know sometimes as adults we make choices that are unconventional. Slavery, be it as a laborer or as a prostitute, is as far from choice as you can get.  

Although some women are involved in luring others into slavery, the evil opportunist and user of slaves is usually a man. And there would be no market for human beings to be used in horrible ways, if it were not for mostly men customers. So I have to say it, sometimes I hate men.

Thankfully, there are men's groups who are opposing trafficking.  Because of them, and because we all know good people, we know, no not all men are like this. 

Actually, we need to stop saying and thinking, "All men are alike."

The ideas that all men are beasts without self control, that men must have sex or they will rape, and the hatred behind the abuse of women, must stop.***

And yes, it starts with us being part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

I will be posting links to HELP and I encourage you to do some research as well and find the people and organizations local to you.

Did you know that CALIFORNIA, because of its ethnic diversity, its airports and transportation systems, and it's population, is a prime destination for traffickers to take a child to work, and even to be SOLD and taken to other countries?  Did you know traffickers use DISNEYLAND as a perfect place to pass around children?

I want all my readers who want this abominable criminality to stop to donate to at least one of the organizations I'm profiling this month. I want you to talk to the children you care for and about. I want you to talk to your teens. I want you teachers to get programs going in your schools - have someone come out and talk to your class.

And I want everyone to light a candle - in memory of someone who is being sex trafficked. The people who are turned into slaves won't last long.  It's estimated that most die within 7 years.

This month is my effort to speak up.

Sadly, National Geographic allowed a substantial error to occur in this article, because it states that she MARRIED King Ludwig.  She did not. But she did have three marriages.  Never the less, this is one of several links to her home, which is California Historical Landmark No 292.

LOLA MONTEZ GOES TO CALIFORNIA

In 1853, Lola Montez took a Pacific Mail Steamship from Panama to San Francisco. The Gold Rush that began a few years earlier had transformed the frontier and it was mostly rough hewn speculators who lived in the burgeoning city. Her arrival came as a complete surprise, unlike her arrival to New York City, but as theatre and entertainment were very new to the city and extremely welcome, she got booked. Though she was not esteemed as an actress, everyone wanted to see the Spider Dance.  The Tarantula dance had begun in Southern Italy, but her take on it, stomping on imaginary spiders until she became a spider herself, was considered erotic. Young men packed her performances.  San Francisco was forgiving of any moral issues in her past. Because she did charity events, she was thought to have a good heart. However, for the first time Lola Montez suffered being parodied and satirized and lampooned.  Another dancer performed as Mula Lolo of Bohemia.  A comedic biographical song was sung about her.

She went to Sacramento, then Marysville, and then Grass Valley, which was, despite its name, then the largest city in Nevada County, California, and a site known for quartz mining, the quartz having flecks of gold.  No longer a shanty town, it was bustling and prosperous and schools, churches, and gambling houses had been built.  "Spanish" women lived there ; likely prostitutes.

As her dancing became yesterday's news, according to author James F. Farley, Lola gave a private dance to a small circle of fans that might have been most revealing.

But then she married Patrick Purdy Hull, in 1853 at a Catholic Mission.  This was her second Catholic marriage, despite all those protests against Catholicism in Europe.  She had now married on three continents.  After a month she sought a divorce.  She suggested that Hull suffered from an "affliction"  but then she knew her first husband was alive after all. Did he give her syphilis or did she give him it?  Though she had many lovers, she never had children, yet, like Marilyn Monroe did, she was especially kind and generous to children.  (Hull died in 1858 after a stoke he never recovered from.)

By then Lola Montez was 35ish.  In Grass Valley she purchased a cottage with a garden and perhaps found contentment for the first time in her life.  She seemed to retire, to calm, as she humbly did the gardening herself.  She went hunting and riding, read and wrote her memoir, but it's speculated that what was really happening was that her health was in decline. She authored three books that were published in 1858 which were an autobiography, 125 love stories of classic couples, and a witty  beauty book which included advice to gentleman on how to deal with the ladies at a time when she was bitter about men.

In 1855 she closed up the cottage and went back to San Francisco to plan a comeback - a world tour.  She needed to earn.  It was a time of financial crashes and bank closures.  She got depressed.  She looked worn out.  She got into Spiritualism - contacting spirits to ask them questions.  Her world tour included small venues near the gold fields but she made it to Australia and back to New York.  Perhaps realizing she would die, she made a will favoring the children of her manager.

In her forties, Lola Montez got back into Protestantism while also a spiritualist.  As she got sicker she got more pious.  She visited the Magdalen Society asylum for former prostitutes and seems to have repented her life of sin.  But she said it was her mother who ruined her first.  She died on January 17, 1861 with a Minister at bedside reading the Bible.  Her tombstone says "Mrs. Eliza Gilbert."  Word of her death was spread by Pony Express.

Rumors of Romance always followed Lola.  As did rumors of children she might have had, perpetrated by people who claimed her as a mother - and King Ludwig I as a father.  (Three said so!)  After they divorced, Lola and Patrick Hull were also supposed to have had a little girl born about 1856.  And the tabloid press in England, as suggested by a man who had been her valet and servant,claimed she'd had a child with George Heald.  No evidence exists that any of this was true.

ARE YOU A SILICON VALLEY MISTRESS? MISSY ASKS YOU!

A friend of mine who worked in Southern California during the dot-com boom said that many of the twenty-something men she worked for and with, many who had parental money or inheritances or trust funds to draw from for business start ups and then paid themselves well from their enterprises,  had mistresses.  She said they were quite open about it.

I know that Silicon Valley executives have mistresses.

In Wyoming women make 64 cents to every $1.00 men do...

In California women make a 86 cents...

I was raised to let men do the asking, planning, and paying for dates.

I came to feel it was wrong not to "contribute," such as for desert or leaving a tip or maybe paying for cab fare.

But in recent years, as I heard that some men even ask a woman out and then, on the date, announce that she is paying her own way or paying for the whole thing, which is appallingly bad manners for starters, I came to feel that while every relationship is different, men who can't afford to date shouldn't. (And there are lots of things to do for free or inexpensively in the big city so whoever is asking another person out does have some options.)

Are some men taking advantage of women, treating them as financial equals when they are not?  I think so.

Men who are satisfied with feminism only because they're lazy about taking the old responsibilities when dating and in relationships seem to be all over.

I've recently met several men, as neighbors and friends of friends, who are living with their much more financially successful girlfriends and letting them pay all the rent and more!  I can't help but think that the day will come when that girlfriend has had enough and asks them to go.  Some of these men are in school or working full time and maybe the day will come when they are the ones who can do it all and let their girlfriends be the ones who are supported.

Maybe I've come full circle...  HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS ISSUE?
