HOW TO FLIRT WITH A GUY AND STAY CLASSY (IT'S NOT SO TRICKY!) : MISSY SPEAKS

Among the various videos and articles I read about flirting, this one which is by Matt Boggs, very much typifies my best attitude about flirting.

By the way, because I know you want to know, this past several months I've been flirting myself.  I finally found myself in a situation in which there are lots of men to flirt with. The men are telling jokes. The room is full of laughter.  And why not?  It's healthy.  It's healing.  Everyone is witty or trying to be, using their intelligence. The men may walk out of there into their ordinary life, but they all do so with their peacock feathers spread. My attitude is "no harm done." They feel good about themselves and so do I. They feel alive and happy as they walk out the door and so do I.  They look forward to the next time they have a good time. So do I.  It does not matter if they're in a relationship or not. Or if I am. It's all fun.

The other day four men had gravitated to my table, I looked around the room. Yes, there were other women there. For whatever reason, they were not participating in the socialization.

Now, I'm not judging those women for wanting to be alone in their thoughts or too busy with their cell phones.  Among the men there is likely one or two who would like nothing more than to be with a woman who is more quiet. I don't know what their circumstances are in their lives. Maybe, though I see no wedding bands or engagement rings, they're in committed relationships or are in grief, having lost someone they love. I just bring this up because there is definitely the space for them to join the party. I would also welcome a new, good girlfriend, someone to go places and do things with. Their behavior is communicating that they're not available, not even for friendship with another women.

You do not have to be the life of the party to engage with others. Flirting is also something you can do with your partner, someone you've made a commitment with.  If you're slogging along in a day to day relationship it may require you change your mindset. Go out on a date with your partner. Tell them when they look good or smell good.  Compliment them.  Hold hands as you walk along.  Make eye contact. Tell them you love them or that you thought about them all day...

FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL : MISTRESS MANIFESTO FILM REVIEW

Do you believe that there is a Soul Mate out there for you somewhere, even if you and they are, shall we say, a wee bit defective?  Another film I love with plenty of LOL moments, but yet, a serious side too, Four Weddings and A Funeral is entirely enjoyable. An older British film, you can't beat Hugh Grant, as Charles, a young man who seems to never get it right, Kristen Scott Thomas as Fiona, who has suspended any interest in other men because she's secretly in love with Charles, Charlotte Coleman as Charles' funky sister Scarlett who seems too off beat for her crowd, and Andie MacDowell, as an American who's had many lovers and who keeps popping up. The whole group of characters range from eccentric to just a tad odd, which makes them all loveable. No need to get your hankie out with this one, you'll laugh, you won't cry because in the end, it's all good.

THE GOOD GIRLFRIEND YOU REALLY NEED AND NEED TO BE : OPINION BY MISSY

Reading about Diane Von Furstenberg and reading her own memoirs, listening to her speak on a YouTube video, I feel as if I know this woman.  I also feel, "This is the kind of woman you want to have as a friend." She's a celebrity, not from the world of entertainment or sports, but fashion and enterprise, but even if she had not been so successful in a worldly way, she'd be a good friend to have.

Although Diane emphasizes her love of independence and a certain appreciation for the fact that upon marriage she was a Princess and that having the Von Furstenberg name helped her, and I have no doubt it did get her though doors, I feel as if she skims over the role of her husband the Prince. He wanted her to have the child.  He married her.  They were an "in" couple in New York early in their marriage.  They had a second child.  Then the marriage busted up.  (I've read elsewhere that the marriage was after two previous abortions.  I do wonder if Diane was just unlucky or not practicing contraception.) Diane doesn't spend much time on the bust up.  She says nothing about the financial support of her ex, not even if he contributed to the raising of their children or if they saw him regularly. This makes me wonder if she not only wanted to be an independent woman but if she HAD to be.  So if there's anything I wish she'd written more about, it would be about her and Egon after the divorce.

Believe me when I say that having a Diane Von Furstenberg kind of woman as a good friend can make all the difference in the world to you.

Here's some reasons why:

She thinks women overall are great. She gives opportunities to other women. She helps women find their self esteem.
She admits her failures and doubts as well as her successes and hopes.
She's real.  Her expectations of you are high but there's room for your mistakes.
She is a life long learner.
She married the second time to Barry Diller when it made sense, not out of desperation.
She knows sexual exploration has its time and place.
She loves the culture of art and is kind to creators and makers.
She is worldly enough to know what goes on, but what is and isn't right for her at this time in her life.
She is generous in her judgement of others and quite accepting.
She is a feminist without being in a constant battle with men.

Thinking of Diane's qualities as those of a girlfriend you really need and should be, I wonder how many of my readers, who may admire or have other qualities, practice being a good friend.
What you owe a good friend and what they owe you is different and better than a friendship of lesser value.

Really Truly, the best gift you can give yourself is a Best Friend!
