Dogs do have needs and there are expenses.  If I could do it over, the one thing I would do is buy doggie health insurance.  When I got my dog she was almost five years old and I knew near nothing about her past. Later I found out she had likely been allowed to breed or perhaps bred in a backyard.  Breeders sometimes stop when a dog is about five years old.

I soon learned she was terrified to have an accident in the house... i.e. housetrained.  However she was never taught any commands such as sit and stay. She also did not know what to do with toys and didn't play with them.

I had no idea if she'd ever had vaccinations or medical care. I didn't know that I could get health insurance for her, starting with her adoption from a local shelter where they had groomed her, cleaned her teeth, and otherwise given her a thumbs up when it came to her health...So, a dog does not have to be a puppy in order to get health insurance for it.

HAVING A MERRY DOGGY CHRISTMAS : IT'S NATIONAL MUTT DAY!

It's Holiday Season, the end of another year, and what I want to do is relax. And when I think of relaxation, I think of my dog. 

She is no longer with us, but my every day with her was a better day because of her. 

I remember a day that was so intense, I had a splitting headache.  

I started thinking about her as I sat in traffic. How I had to get home to feed her - How she would be there to greet me - The way she played - Her pretty face - How much I loved her -; The headache evaporated, just went right away, along with my bad mood.

Not everyone can own a dog. If you rent it can be difficult to find a dog-friendly apartment. But I want to suggest to you that if you do love dogs, you volunteer to foster one, and see how that goes. Many cities now offer fostering programs or adoption without having to put the animal in a shelter, as shelters can be traumatizing. You can save a dog's life by giving it some time away from the shelter.  

And, well, having a dog is beyond loving it and caring for it and it doing the same for you. There's responsibilities and money involved. It needs medical care, good food and treats, baths and grooming, but there is also lots of reward. Having a dog, having to walk it, is excellent for your health. Having a dog can open conversations with others. You can meet people, other dog lovers. 

But ah, I'm suggesting that when you adopt a dog and do this for yourself and the dog. It's OK to ask someone else to get one for you, but please don't surprise anyone by gifting them a pet without their approval!

Consider what your priorities are. Some dogs are for protection. Some dogs are officially service or companion animals. Some dogs will mainly sleep on your lap. One of my friends says her dog picks her boyfriends.

This month we're going to have ourselves a merry doggy Christmas and explore some options for you!  And we start with NATIONAL MUTT DAY!

THE PERFECT CUP : HOW TO MAKE TEA THE BRITISH WAY

A consensus:

BOIL FRESH WATER to at least 200 degrees F.  (Oxygenated water enhances flavor.  That means shake the water up before you pour it.)

PRE-WARM THE TEAPOT.  (My experience is that the teapot should be ceramic and not metal.)  How so?  It would seem to me that boiling water would heat the pot. So I take this to mean that some boiling water is poured into the pot just to warm it up, that is poured out, and then the freshly boiled water to make the tea is poured in.

PUT THE TEA IN and STEEP IT FOR 3-5 MINUTES or longer for stronger.  Early Grey or English Breakfast might take closer to the 5 minutes.

REMOVE THE TEA and STIR - More oxygenation.

MILK: Add milk to the cup before pouring in the tea.

INTO THE HOLIDAYS with MISTRESS MANIFESTO

Run the word Mistress into your public library database and up will come a whole lot of fiction, depictions of Mistresses as strong women, ruled by desire and ruled by a need to compete with other women and win/deserve the love of a man worth waiting for. 

No doubt about it, many women have a fantasy of becoming a Mistress.  For some an escape fantasy.  From dreary job prospects, from a so-so marriage, from boredom. 

Coming up, I'm going to review three "Mistress Films" that you might enjoy seeing, and then I'm personally going to kick back.
 

OK, TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND LET IT OUT - LET'S GIVE THANKS

I always wanted to cover some NAZI MISTRESSES, and I kept putting it off, because it's an especially tough subject and there seemed to be no good time to do so.  How can a woman love a man who is a murderer, blatantly so, as Amon Goth was?
How did Nazi's manage to do what they did?
Pure evil? Mass Hypnosis? Conformity? Rationalization?

These are things we should think about, absolutely.  The posts are there for you to get back to another time, because I know you need to take a deep breath and let it out. 
I know that you are ready for the American Holidays, beginning tomorrow, Thanksgiving, our celebration of Prosperity, as well as a celebration of our appreciation of the Freedoms of our Country, the United States of America, and being free of tyranny is part of that..

So, now's the time to redirect your thoughts to the Good in our world.

This past year I've met a few people who by my way of thinking qualify as Saints because of the selflessness they exhibit in kindness and service to others.

Here are two examples.

I know a woman, Betty, who agreed to have Power of Attorney to another woman, Mazie, when Mazie's husband died. They had known each other for over 30 years when he died.  Mazie, once brilliant and highly educated with a good career, has Alzheimer's and over the last six years Betty has done everything to give this a woman the best quality of life possible, though there came the day when she had to move her out of her house and into an Assisted Living home, something she feels bad about. Now Mazie sits in the corner paging through picture books, but Betty even tries to find her picture books she'd actually be interested in.

I met Shauna long ago and never really got to talking to her until recently. She always impressed me as a fashionista, because she seems to change her eyeglasses, hair and nails frequently, coordinating them with various colorful outfits. So I sat with her and asked her if she was on her way home and she said no, she was going to see a relative in a home where he must receive round the clock care for the rest of his life.  Shauna lives at least an hour and a half to two and a half hours, depending on how transportation is running, from the Nursing Home her relative lives in.  Eight years ago he was in a terrible accident and wasn't supposed to live.  The doctors determined they would pull the plug.  Shauna told God that if he would allow this relative to live, she would visit him every day.  And she has, not missing a day in EIGHT YEARS! 
I said, "You are so dedicated and loyal!" 
She said, "No it's God.  He's the one who opens my eyes each morning and when my eyes are open, then I know I have to get dressed and go!"  Here I thought I was sitting with a fashionista, but really I was sitting with a SAINT!

These people are exceptional.

I'll bet there is someone in your life who you are grateful for.  Remember to thank them!
