By my way of thinking the term Mistress isn't appropriate for every woman who has an affair with a married man.
(And please remember that I am well aware that this type of relationship can happen in homosexual, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, and other relationships!)
A woman can be a Mistress to a man who is not married to anyone, or a man who is living with someone, or remain his Mistress even though he goes through a series of girlfriends or marriages...
A Mistress is sometimes the consistency in his life.
