Excerpt from page 223 of Matt Ridley's book THE RED QUEEN

..." Nordic forests seem to be full of deceitful adulterers... some male pied flycatchers in the forest of Scandinavia manage to be polygamous by holding two territories, each with a female in it... Two teams of researchers have studied the birds and come to different conclusions about what is going on. The Finns and the Swedes say that the mistress is deceived into believing the male is unmarried. The Norwegians say that since the wife sometimes visits the mistress's nest and may try to drive her away; the mistress can be under no illusions. She accepts the fact that her mate may desert her for his wife but hopes that if things go wrong at the wife's next - they often do - he will come back to help her raise her young. He gets away with it only when the two territories are so far apart that the wife cannot visit the mistress's territory often enough to persecute her. In other words, according to the Norwegians, men deceive their wives about their affairs, but not their mistresses.

Bobby Fischer seems to me to have gone crazy, but these days the psychology bores would have us believe that everyone is diagnosable with something.  Then there are those who think that anyone who is involved elsewhere in addition to their marriage has some deep psychological reason for it and that therapy will make that person change.  But since not everything in life is deep or complicated and there are so many ways to love, what do YOU say?

THE LAW : PHILLIPINES MAKES CONCUBINAGE PUNISHABLE WITH PRISON (FOR THE MAN)

EXCERPT : "As provided for under Article 334 of the Revised Penal Code, “Any husband who shall keep a mistress in the conjugal dwelling, or shall have sexual intercourse, under scandalous circumstances, with a woman who is not his wife, or shall cohabit with her in any other place, shall be punished by prision ... The concubine shall suffer the penalty of destierro.”

You may likewise consider filing a complaint for violation of the provisions of Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9262, otherwise known as the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.” This law penalizes the commission of abusive acts against a woman and her child. Since your husband is neglecting his responsibilities and he refuses to provide support for you and your children, as you have mentioned in your letter, you have a cause of action against him. As provided for under Section 5, id, “The crime of violence against women and their children is committed through any of the following acts: (i) Causing mental or emotional anguish, public ridicule or humiliation to the woman or her child, including, but not limited to, repeated verbal and emotional abuse, and denial of financial support or custody of minor children or access to the woman’s child/children.” Your husband may suffer the penalty of prision mayor if found to be guilty of the aforementioned crime (Section 6 (f), id).

As to your question relative to bigamy, please be informed that you cannot file a complaint for bigamy against your husband..."

The Iceland Supreme Court this week ruled that his body could be exhumed to prove whether he was the paternal father of Jinky Young, 9.

It overturned a ruling from the District Court of Reykjavik last month after new evidence emerged that the chess champion sent money to Jinky’s mother, Marilyn Young, 31, just before he died..."

The story of American Chess Champion Bobby Fischer (Robert James Fischer) is one of the strangest stories ever,  not just because his body got dug up for DNA tests in an ugly inheritance battle between one woman who said she was his secret wife, Miyoko Watei, who is President of the Japanese Chess Association, and his Filipina mistress , Marilyn Young, with whom he fathered a child*, and I'm reminded of it because of what's been happening over the last couple months with Edward Snowden, the leaker of NSA secrets.

Snowden, who has not had a mistress to my knowledge but did leave a girlfriend, who is now pictured all over the net for her pole-dancing hobby, in the lurch,  holed up in a Moscow airport transit terminal for weeks. His American Passport and travel papers were revoked by the authorities and his bid to find asylum and citizenship in Iceland went nowhere. On August 1, 2013 he was given one year temporary Russian refuge and is reported to be living with American expats somewhere that is not Moscow.

American Chess Champ Fischer also had his American passport revoked, after not giving in to threats of prison and huge fines by the United States, when he decided to go ahead and play his main opponent in Yugoslavia, which was forbidden at the time.  He took his win of over 3 million dollars and started to travel. 

Fischer grew to the age of five in Russia, the son of a single mother, a brilliant Jewish woman who he remained close to.  She brought her son to New York City where they became American citizens and she remained, but at the end of her life, though he called her everyday, he couldn't even attend her funeral.  The life-long loner and increasingly reclusive man ended his travels when he moved to Iceland and became a citizen there. But during his years of exhile he got involved with the women.

There are those who say if it were not for Bobby Fischer, the United States would have remained unaware of chess as a competitive sport.  Before Iceland, he disappeared in travel for about 20 years, and then emerged as a ranting anti-American DJ on Phillipine radio, a man who also was terribly anti-semetic.

Fischer's father was likely a Hungarian Jew, so it's bizarre that he would be so convinced that he would become a holocaust denier and worse, but these days it goes almost without saying that he was a broken genius - mentally ill. 

In 2010 the two women in his life had his body exhumed to be tested for a DNA match  Marilyn lost and Miyoko became his sole heir. * Though he believed himself to be the father of Marilyn's daughter, who looks nothing like him, the DNA showed no match.
