MISSY ASKS YOU! DO YOU HAVE A PLATONIC FRIEND WHO HAS BEEN IN YOUR LIFE FOR YEARS?
Here is what I want to know. Do YOU have a PLATONIC friendship with someone that has been going on for years, while you go through -whatever - a series of relationships - marriage - long term celibacy? What are the main characteristics of your platonic friendship that keep it going?
I had a long term platonic male friend. The friendship was very good for at least a decade and went on several years more until he got married and then I never heard from him again. I thought of him as a brother, but until he got married most of his friends kept telling him I was waiting for him to give up the search and turn to me. That wasn't true.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college, I dated a guy a few times but there was no romantic feelings. We decided to be friends. And we were sister/brother all through college. His parents appreciated me as his friend. When he decided to marry, his fiance was horrible. Pretty on the outside but just an awful human. AWFUL. She was so rude to me at her baby shower that I left halfway. I didn't call me friend (wasn't a jealous ex and I didn't want to interfere in his new family). My husband advised me just to let time go by. Well my hubby was precious, but we divorced a few years later (He hated country and I hated city). Cut to NINE years later. It is one week before my wedding to ranch hubby. My friend calls out of the blue (mom gave him my number of course)...he came to our wedding, he is basically an uncle to my stepsons, and we are raising his kids as cousins. He and my hubby are good buds. Purely platonic, but I have mo brothers and he has no sisters.
