COUPLE HAS AN OPEN MARRIAGE SO COMPLICATED IT'S HARD TO KEEP TRACK : POLYMORY - MARRIED AND DATING

HUFFINGTON POST ARTICLE - VERY INTERESTING !

Monogamy just doesn't work for the couple, whose relationship is featured on Showtime’s "Polyamory: Married & Dating." What does work for them is a polyamorous lifestyle, Kamala and Michael tell Nightline reporter Nick Watt in the report above. (Rachel is not the first person they've invited into their relationship during the course of their 12-year marriage; the couple previously shared their home with another couple, and Kamala has been in a relationship with another woman for two years.)

COMMENTARY : This gives new meaning to LOVE TRIANGLE, which has almost always had negative connotations!  I wonder how Secret Mistresses feel about moving into a relationship in which everyone loves everyone! - Missy

JEAN PREBBLE WAS A MISTRESS FOR 42 YEARS and THEN SHE MARRIED HIM!

DAILY MAIL - SCREENWRITER JOHN PREBBLE'S MISTRESS OF 42 YEARS, JEAN SPEAKS

'I was a secret mistress for 42 years': He was the only lover she ever had — and she never once asked him to leave his wife!"

"John was a wonderful companion. He was witty, erudite and romantic, and for almost half a century we shared a love affair that never waned in its intensity or lost its fervor.

I was John’s mistress for 42 years and his wife for six, and when he died of Parkinson’s disease in 2001, I became his widow. He was my only lover and I adored him, and if mistresses have a right to call themselves dignified, I hope I warrant the description.

I never asked John to leave his wife, neither did I feel a shred of resentment that he didn’t. Their family life in Kingswood, Surrey, was separate and distinct from my illicit life with him in London. I never asked about Gail either — I subdued my curiosity — and although I felt guilt, I consoled myself that she was never hurt because she remained unaware of my existence."

HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR BOYFRIENDS DIVORCE : ROBYN TODD and LESLEY DORMEN : MISTRESS MANIFESTO BOOK REVIEW

HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR BOYFRIENDS DIVORCE
Loving Your Separated Man Without Losing Your Mind
by Robyn Todd and Lesley Dormen  C 1999
M Evans and Company  New York

This book is not going to tell you to become a mistress or to stay in a relationship when the divorce he kept promising never happens, but I really appreciated the fact that these authors were so understanding of the situation many women find themselves in, and the questions you might ask yourself by Dr. Leslie A Pam without any heavy morality or psychology.

I think this book encourages self honesty and introspection, something that's very important.  I think that if you started dating a man who was separated from his wife, living separately, or if you've been told so...you may want to read this book.

If you've fallen in love with him and are having a sexual relationship with him and you want the relationship to work then you might want to read this book.

I found it at a library and it's not a recent publication, but seek it out.

Will he?  Won't he?  Is that making you feel crazy?

Many women do stay in a relationship hoping the man they've been seeing will divorce and then marry them.  Something we hear about, just talking with women friends, is the idea that some relationships are simply transitional.  That means that a woman goes through all the divorce shit and then he dumps her and starts up with someone else.  Or he decides he doesn't want to be married at all.  Maybe he never played around before he married and wants that experience now.  Maybe he needs some alone time.

Yes, staying in there anyway, is the way that some women become mistresses.

This book doesn't get into the fact that these days many women do not want to be married either.  Still, it's a short, easy read, with a lot of good information.

START THE NEW YEAR OUT PITCHING OLD COSMETICS AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

HUFF POST - MAKEUP EXPIRATION DATES  link to full article.  "... it's pretty important to pay attention to makeup expiration dates since a bottle of too-old foundation can quickly turn into a jar of breakout-causing bacteria. Yikes."

Mascara has one of the shortest shelf lives out there, clocking in at around three months.

Anything cream-based (foundation, blush or shadows) last from about 12 to 18 months. Since they contain oil, they tend to break down faster than powder formulas, which can last about two years.

Lipstick expires after a year, while gloss will make it to the 18-month mark. Eye makeup has a decidedly shorter existence. While a pencil liner can last up to 2 years, since you're constantly sharpening it, you should only keep a pot of gel liner for about two months. These formulas break down fast and can contain lots of bacteria.

ON PRESCRIPTION DRUGS :  I called my local pharmacy to ask about this.  When it comes to old over the counter drugs, I was told the idea is to throw them in the regular trash along with coffee grinds or old orange peels to deter garbage pickers from using them.  For prescription drugs it is no longer ecology minded to flush them down the toilet or throw them in the trash.  Some may last past the expiration date on the bottle, but call to ask.  Also ask if your local pharmacy collects old scripts for donation or if there are any special recycling events locally.

GOOGLE HONORED SHACKLETON'S BIRTHDAY WITH THIS SPECIAL PAGE HEADER

SHACKLETON'S BIRTHDAY HITS THE GOOGLE HEADLINES

Shackleton enthusiasts will be delighted to know that on Shackleton's birthdate, 15th February 2011, Google honoured the great explorer with one of its special page headers.

It looked like this:

A quote from the JAMES CAIRD SOCIETY WEB SITE:

"On his return to Britain, Shackleton was restless and began drinking too much: 'frivolously boyish' was one acquaintance's opinion of his behaviour. He found domestic life stifling and veered between irritability and remorse. He was sent on a war propaganda mission to Buenos Aires, unsuccessfully trying to persuade Argentina and Chile to forsake neutrality and enter the war with the Allies. Then in 1918 he headed an undercover expedition to establish a British presence in the far north of neutral Norway (where he had a suspected heart attack). Finally, following the Armistice in November, he became 'staff officer in charge of Arctic equipment' during the Allies' war against the Bolsheviks in the new Soviet Union, remaining in Murmansk as little more than a glorified storekeeper. Most of the time in between he lived at the Mayfair home of his mistress, American divorcée Rosalind Chetwynd. South, his account of the Endurance escapade, was published in 1919 and he hit the lecture circuit with tales of the ordeal."

ROSALIND SECOR CHETWYND (ACTRESS ROSA LYND) : MISTRESS OF SIR EARNEST SHACKLETON of ANTARTICA FAME

The married Antarctic explorer Sir Earnest Shackleton was involved with the American born actress ROSALIND CHETWYND, also known as ROSA LYND, from 1910-1922.  He lived in her Mayfair, London home much of the time, while he and his wife had three children.

(This picture of Rosalind is from a closed e-Bay auction in Great Britain - via Google Images.)

As depicted in the film starring Kenneth Branagh about the 1914 Endurance expedition to the South Pole, which appeared doomed after their ship got stuck and then crushed by ice, Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was a rugged and commanding leader.  He took his party of 28 men to cross Antarctica by foot, pulling two small boats with them, and hoping to get to a whaling station.  Effort alone wasn't enough.  By some miracle they made it.

The communication systems that exist today that make the South Pole a photo-op for politicians, and the kind of tough but doable travel as exhibited by Prince Harry and a group of disabled veterans in recent times, was not available in the early 20th century, so there was no way for Skackleton and his men to let it be known that they were stranded and needed a rescue. Shackleton was gone a couple years and even considered to be dead.  In one scene in the movie his wife and his mistress talk on the phone.  Neither is giving up on him yet. That made me curious; WHO WAS HIS MISTRESS?

According the obituary that appeared in the New York Times on October 10, 1922, Rosalind Secor was the daughter of William Holt Secor, a New York lawyer, and became "Rosa Lynd", the actress. In 1902 she married Guy Chetwynd, son of Sir George Chetwynd, who was part of the peerage. The couple had a child together, Sir Victor James Guy Chetwynd, 6th Bt. born 14 Nov 1902.  (At some point the couple divorced.) She died in London, suddenly, on October 9, 1922.

So Rosalind is a relatively unknown person, while her man was and is world famous!
(Not so unusual, you know!)
