Privacy - being discreet - is usually necessary in order to keep your relationship when you are a mistress - at least for a while - until you and he are ready - for marriage or to break up and move on and then some. Mistresses should be the last to out themselves.
So many of us simply do not mention that we are in a relationship when we meet someone new. Maybe our neighbors see us come and go. Maybe we have a place to rendezvous that is not his or hers.
